Came back after seeing on Facebook the deeply sad news about both Rossweisse and Robert Armin, and discovered some others I remembered from back in the day had also passed on.
Browsing the boards I realised that I had joined when I was a young evangelical student (I graduated in 2000) posted throughout a large slice of my 20s while I was working for the orchestra of All Souls, Langham Place and still feel a connection to the Ship. I think it made me open to different strokes of Christianity, and although I haven’t attended church at all for nearly a decade, I wouldn’t say I’m not a Christian any more. I do often think of people here, and it’s still a pretty unique and special place, think I’m going to return and see what’s shaking here, where there’s a bit more depth and connection than on most social media (I waste way too much of my free time on Facebook & Twitter!)
It’s a mark of how little I’ve been here that the new boards are still new and weird to me!
Thanks, @Piglet and @NicoleMR - I remember both of you too 😁. It’s amazing how many people have stuck around this little bulletin board for so long, isn’t it? Really something special.
When I first joined I met Janice in the chat room and she told me to read Fields Of Gold, then fairly recently archived, to get an idea of the realness of the community here. She was right, and I’ve never forgotten it. I read the entire thread (printed it out at work ). Deeply powerful stuff.
How was the swim across the Tiber? I hope they had nice, warm fluffy towels on the Other Side to welcome you!
Thanks, Galilit. It was hard at times but so worth it. People cheered me on from rowboats the whole way and yes, there were fluffy warm towels. Best thing I ever did.
Hi, I'm mrsshrew, I was on the old ship, and although I made this account when the new ship opened, I was so out of myself with postnatal depression that I don't think I ever posted.
I missed the community here. It is good to be back.
Hello Shipmates, it's Coot. My former profile is not in existence and as I was not banished, I thought it was safe to make another. No-one expressly said I was unwanted, so here I am.
Looking forward to low key hanging out with you. The new profile name is after St Martin de Porres, and is the name I am known by after being received as a novice in the Anglican Dominicans. Best. And heartened to see familiar names.
If you've been aboard before, you probably won't need this, but the 10 Commandments and FAQ pages (links on the main page) will tell you all you need to know about what's what and who's who.
Thank you! Is anyone in the Bristol area? Recently moved back after 30 years on walkabout and looking for a local church. Very broad church and liberal, church looked for - I was a Deacon in a Congregational church where I’ve moved from but don’t know a soul church wise in the Bristol area.
Ok ...maybe I'm not as witty as I thought. This place looks to have quite slick humour. I never quite became an intellectual, though perhaps that was my dream.
I've been taking myself, the Bible and Christian faith too seriously. I need a break. I can't help thinking God has a better sense of humour than we give him credit for.
Maybe I want to improve my writing skills on here. Let's see. I might not fit in here. But where do I fit? That is the kwezchon.
Hi Folks, long time no type. Just popped in to remind myself about the World Community Grid as I break in a new laptop. Good to be reminded of many old shipmates as I ran my eye down the lists of recent posts.

Thank you.
Different in what way? - it looks on the surface very similar to the old one, after the prettier interface of course.
Thanks Piglet!!

Does that mean I will get teased?
I am far from a know all.
Have a look at the FAQ and 10 Commandments pages, which will tell you all about what's what and who's who, and happy sailing with us!
