Today I had an unlooked for present. A cheque from Royal Mail, in consideration of the service failure which happened when my niece's Christmas parcel went astray. It turned up the day after I submitted the complaint, but the letter doesn't mention that as a result of their investigation, though I believe I had an email at the time closing the incident, and it shows up on track and trace. Since an earlier such incident to the same address only produced a couple of stamps, I feel we are quits. Though it's odd.
Thank you for all your prayers for my teefies - I had a sudden, very painful experience on 1 February, but a dentist's appointment for work on said area only on Thursday, 4 February.
Shortly after my post, the excessive pain amazingly ceded, and returned to absolutely bearable levels. No further notable incidents until Thursday, and the dental work, with which my dentist is rather satisfied, as am I. There was only a very mild infection at that spot by then, and the general state quite all right really. - After the work, just a bit sore now, as usual, but definitely no more pain, as successful mending hath occurred.
Further P&T for the faithful Neil, who came to us for the third Saturday on the trot, and this time replaced almost everything that moved (and some parts that didn't). It appears that earlier boiler engineers had fitted the wrong size oil jet, and upped the pressure to compensate, so the result was a dirty great hole in the heaviest heat exchanger baffle (Mastermind, here I come!)
So far so good - keeping fingers crossed as it's brutally cold here!
(He was 2 hours later than he anticipated on Saturday after attending an emergency call-out to a boiler suddenly making a horrendous noise. Either a small rat or a large mouse had got into the fan <eeeek>)
Praise and thanks that N in the prayer thread had been told that his scans are clear. A small tumour was completely removed and no signs of any cancerous cells anywhere else. I am amazed at the swift diagnosis, treatment and follow up he has received in this pandemic. Now all he has to do is keep his 6 year old daughter from jumping all over him as he is still very sore.
Thanks for the prompting that led me to finding an online CV of a witness to last year's shenanigans, which have serious implications for his reliability. My friend is feeling much better.
And I've been doing some more of "my own research" and the guy's connections are so iffy it's unbelievable. I'm not sure how useful the information is, apart from realising I wouldn't trust him if he were to tell me that the 68 bus drawing into the stop was in fact a 68 bus.
That's most excellent, Mrs S! (We had a car situation this week as well, and it cost rather more than the new battery... ) Hope the positive run of things continues for Monday.
Thanks Nen! No sign of Mr Openreach - BUT thanks to everyone who prayed about my daughter-in-law's pregnancy! All issues are now resolved, and the Little Welsh Cousin should have a little brother in July!
PRAISE BE TO GOD!
(and thank you thank you thank you, prayer warriors of the Ship )
Since Christmas, they have been fretting over test results and to get the all-clear at last is such a weight off everyone's shoulders. DiL's mother and I agreed yesterday that we hadn't appreciated how stressed we were, until we weren't.
<I'd really like a smiley of someone turning somersaults with joy, please>
We had similar problems with test coming back with not good results when he were expecting our son @The Intrepid Mrs S. It took me ages after he was born to convince me he was fine. Hope son and DiL can enjoy the rest of the pregnancy.
The people at the end of the street had a tree which draped down past my ear level and I was worried it could knock out one of my hearing aids on a windy day, especially as there is a drain nearby it could fall into. I don't often see them out in the yard, and I wasn't sure how friendly their dog was. I was reluctant to put a note in their letterbox, as I wasn't sure I could get the tone right.
Finally I saw a young woman it the front yard and asked if they would mind trimming it. Two days later and it was done.
Yesterday I met her out walking the dog and thanked her.
I feel so fortunate in the neighbours I have here - of course if they had refused I could have complained to the council, but no use escalating a problem.
Wee Toby has had his nasal-gastric feeding tube replaced a a "port" direct to his darling little tummy!
Now we can see his whole sweet face!!
(Without plasters keeping the tube stable and irritating his skin)
The idea is that he will take to "eating" now (with no throat obstruction)
If it was not Lent we might say A Certain Word!
So we will write it in Hebrew:
חללויה
Great!
And my small rejoicing. For the past three days I have spent part of each one searching for a) my Guardian subscription vouchers; and then, as well b) the second lot of Garden centre gift vouches from my birthday. The first lot had got held up by the post because of the deep snow drifts - 2 inches at most, and a second tranche was organised. I have sat on the stairs where post was put ready to be taken up to my lever arch files, sorting out keeping and throwing stuff. I have sat by a set of plastic drawers on which were bags brought here by my friend's mother, which I haven't dared to touch, sorting out junk mail.
And then I remembered putting the two things somewhere on the way to my study, on the box of stockpiled cereals I needed to buy in bulk because of not being able to go to the right shop when I wanted to. And both had fallen down the side, between the cereals and the side of the box. Calloo, Callay! As the widow might not have cried out! Both are now in the correct places.
I am, however, going to carry on with the tidying. In half hour sessions.
For our rector who gave us some time over the phone yesterday and has been very supportive over my friend's trouble - it is so helpful to have input from someone outside who agrees that he has been treated badly. He had been worried that she would side with a fellow priest's interpretation. His spirits have lifted.
I've completed on my flat purchase today. So thankful for this opportunity and all who have worked hard to get me here - estate agents, solicitors (who would write to me at 11pm and on Saturdays - they are swamped with the stamp duty freeze), and so on. In a bit of a noodle about the actual move as there are going to be roadworks outside my flat adn no parking - so it is all going a bit Pete Tong in that dept - it will be fine - will likely just cost a bob or two more.
Congratulations! We got the keys of our new place a week ago and are now locked in conversation with a joiner, with similar conversations to be had with plumber, electrician and decorator. So exciting to be able to make our own choices, and not have to put up with what a church committee decided!
Thank you for the kind good wishes - and all the best to @Cathscats as well - yes I too will be embarking in that world of choice as the flat seriously needs doing up. I think it is liveable with for a good while - perhaps six months whilst I settle in tho.
Congratulations @Helix and @Cathcats. I hope to be joining you sometime in the next month or two. Now would our buyer get her buyer sorted and would the probate department get their finger out so we can buy our new house.
Glory to God in the highest, I've got SIXTEEN VACCINE SPOTS for our Vietnamese elderly people!!!!! It's going to be a wild day, arranging to get them all there. Woo hoo!!!!!
That's brilliant, LC. Thanks for doing this.
I was the first person at work to get vaccinated, and I got the second shot a week ago. But getting the appointment was like competing for a hot concert ticket. As soon as the opened up for over 65s, I started checking the website three or four times a day. It took about a week before I got the first appointment. I needed familiarity with computers, along with some persistence and aggressiveness, to get in that easily. I know that others wouldn't have found it so easy.
It's been pretty wild. I got this set of appointments after catching a notice on Twitter about an obscure pharmacy and then it was crunch time getting everybody signed up (24 minutes flat!). And then they called this morning...
THIRTY SLOTS, WOO HOO!
Though now I'm discovering a number of them have quietly got the shot already and failed to tell me, possibly forgetting, possibly afraid to create jealousy in the community. So I've been working through all my contacts trying to fill those slots--preferably with the under-served, but in a pinch, with anybody.

Phew!
Many thanks indeed, dear Prayerians!

The heating is working AND we have a fresh delivery of oil.
We have both had our jabs.
The car problem seems to have been sorted for the cost of a new battery.
And the radon level is below - well below - the action level, for the first time ever!
Now if only Mr Openreach can sort out our problems with the interweb on Monday...
