There was a couple of wee girls in the congregation in St John's who used to sell cookies at whatever the appropriate season of the year was (can't remember), and we always bought some - they're rather nice.

As I understand it, different councils sell at different times of the year. Around here, we're in cookie season now. Sales start at New Year, and you usually get your cookies in time for Lent!

Not been a staple for me. I’ve seen a few occasionally in the U.K. press years ago but I think they might have edited out the culturally specific ones.
