Which is more important your local MP or Westminster?

My local MP is Conservative. He does a decent job but I don’t think Conservative Party ideas are good for the country and I don’t want a Conservative government so he will not get my vote.
Should people vote for the local MP based on what he does for the constituency or should the national government in Westminster be the main focus?

I think it is reasonable to take both into account. It is up to the individual voter to decide.

Westminster interferes more and therefore is more important.

    A valid POV, I think!

Westminster should be the main focus because local government has limited room to manoeuvre and most MPs are reduced to glorified case workers (at best)

My Labour MP is a good lady who lives about a quarter of a mile away. I have never seen her. She is probably less relevant than my local councillors who are also all Labour. She will easily be elected again. Councils and governments are always more relevant.

    Then devolve.

A MP might do a lot more good as a glorified case worker than they do in bulking up or opposing a government majority in Parliament.
  • If the local MP has a good track record of representing people in the community and getting things done which are important to them, and of having integrity, the people will vote them back in regardless of the party and of some political differences.

I think it better to vote for a person rather than a party - simply ticking the box for the latter without having worked out who it is we are voting for allows in those we would prefer not to be governing our country.
