Support thread for educators at the end of the semester

Hello! I’m sure I’m not the only person in the educational field dealing with end of the semester stress, with exams and papers to grade, panicked students, cheating students (sometimes cheating because they’re panicking, too), trying to get it all done as the clock ticks down, unexpected end of semester tasks (surprise! You may have to deal with an hour-long video training session before the term ends in a week!), etc. Adjunct professor with nine online classes at four community colleges across the US here—anyone else?

Easier than last fall when I took on eleven. But I think I need to try for ten. Or win the lottery or something.
  • Yikes yikes yikes yikes... you couldn't, er, do some tech writing or proof reading or something? (sorry, this was me in olden days, and I am very very sorry)

Oh, I’ve been a proofreader and copy editor and editorial assistant for years and years before teaching…
  • I work in a college (England so mainly A-Levels) & totally have exam panic at the moment.
Once the first couple of weeks of exams are out of the way things tend to settle down but the start is horrid.

Just an ordinary (UK) university academic load for me - about 150 exam scripts heading my way in a week’s time, and about the same number of essays a few weeks after that. I predict increased chocolate consumption over the nexts couple of months…

But @ChastMastr you have made me count my blessings. Good wishes for getting through that alarming number of classes!

I am semi-detached from education these days (I'm in a school support role) but I'm currently trying to get the data protection paperwork in place for a new suite of primary school assessments so schools can use them prior to a start-of-June reporting period.

Online UK university associate lecturer of about 100 students (5 tutor groups of 20 students) over 3 modules which equates to just over a 4 day week term-time. Just finished the last of the tutor marking but I don’t have to mark exams as that is extra negotiated workload (I choose to do extra module teaching and term-time marking instead as it is less stressful). Spending next few weeks doing individual telephone tutorials with anxious students and a couple of sessions teaching online.
I’ll be so glad when May is finished as I am doing a doctorate in my spare time and need to do my post-viva corrections, of which there are many.

I have worked in university student services for 30 years. For the last 12, I have been teaching one section of our first year experience course each term.

I got all my grading done and grades submitted; tomorrow’s got a departmental zoom meeting that looks like it will last three hours about stuff that I am not yet experienced with, having to do with student assessments, only encountered at this particular college…
  • grading done? Hurray!
