Prayers for the Infant Samuel (Previously Prayers Please)

Our yongest grandson, Samuel, who is less than six weeks old, has developed RSV. He has been sick for about a week. Two days ago, he was admitted to a local hospital, but yesterday he was transferred to Seattle Children's Hospital and admitted to their ICU. Last report is he was on 25% oxygen. He had been on a feeding tube, but they removed that today. The hope is they can step down the oxygen today and get him to the general floor.

Thank you.

  • Samuel was moved from the ICU to a general floor this afternoon. He is still needing high oxygen, but it is under a tent.

Thanks for prayers and positive thoughts.

His mother had gotten an RSV vaccination before she became pregnant. Otherwise, it could have been much worse.

    Will keep you informed.

  • Got a call this morning. Samuel is off the oxygen now. He is feeding well. They will continue to monitor him for a few more hours. If all goes well, he will be able to be discharged to home this afternoon.
  • Wonderful news!

Hope Samuel is now safely home @Gramps49.
  • Yes, last I knew they discharged him a couple of hours ago, and they live about two hours from Seattle, so I expect they should be home by now. There is still a persistent cough. That will take a while to clear up.

I want to thank you all for your prayers.

In a couple of weeks our families will be getting together to celebrate is formal baptism into the Christian church.

Glad to hear it, Gramps - and well done to wee Samuel!
  • Such good news.
  • Going to have to keep the prayer request going. Today Sammy had a high fever 101F. They had to take him back to the local hospital. The good news is he seems to be responding to acetaminophen, and his oxygen level is stable. The bad news is he may have developed a hernia from coughing so much.

    Likewise!!
  • Samuel was placed on antibiotics yesterday to deal with what appears to be a secondary infection which is common with RSV patients. The thought that he had a rupture has been ruled out so no surgery will be needed.

YaY That's good news @Gramps49 I hope he continues to improve.

  • Adding my prayers of thanks for a good resolution @Gramps49, what a stressful time for your family
  • Adding my prayers of thanks for a good resolution @Gramps49, what a stressful time for your family

Yes, it is very stressful, especially for Samuel's mom. She lost her mother when she was a very young girl and has continued to blame herself for her mom's death even though she has gone through therapy and intellectually knows that is not the case, but still there is that little pit inside her soul. She has written that she knows she would not be able to handle this trial without the support of our son. She calls him her mountain. But even so mountains can crumble too, I fear.

Each morning, we get a text from our son updating Samuel's condition, and in the evening, they share how he fared during the day. We have yet to hear what happened today.

  • Should bring everyone up to date. First of all, thanks for the prayers.

Baby Samuel responding well to antibiotics. We got new pictures of him last night. He appears to be more alert and responding to his people. He was well enough to get his two month vaccinations yesterday. Little cranky last night.

    Thanks again for your concern.
