A bit of an update on Samuel. We are getting ready for his baptism. But he is still struggling. When he went in for his 2 month check his weight was only in the 11th percentile. I think it is because of his bout with RSV. He cries a lot too. He is not sleeping more than a couple of hours at a time.
Unfortunately, as we were coming over on Friday I had a severe cold, so I stayed at the Airbnb throughout the day on Saturday. I did not want to expose the little guy to yet another virus. Today, I feel much better, but I plan on masking up.
Hope Samuel starts to thrive soon. My son (another Samuel) never really put on weight as a baby and didn't sleep a lot. He is now a chunky 36 year old, so hopefully your Samuel will soon start to thrive to.
Mine was in the third percentile and falling off the charts. After a summer of every test under the sun, it turned out to be severe heartburn (more or less—GERD). He too is now a healthy adult, and may your Samuel start thriving soon too!
I'm another whose baby had a rocky start. She started off a chunky wee thing on the 60th centile and, though fretful, sicky and disinclined to sleep, held her own till we tried to wean her. At which point she started dropping down through the centiles and screaming a lot. She dropped from the 60th to the 5th centile. A barium swallow at 9 months showed she had an EDS related floppy digestive system which was letting food pass through undigested, and the undigested food in her system hurt. Fortunately I was able to keep up breast feeding; she was still getting the majority of her usable calories from breastmilk at 18 months, I couldn't drop the 2am feed till she was two, and she wasn't completely weaned off the breast till she was three.
She turned into a very bright, fit and active teen and is still very fit and active at 28.
Also, we were told that because her early experience of food had been painful, she might have issues with food later. She has NO issues with food. In fact her lovely grandmother-in-law has an affectionate nickname for her which translates as "the girl who eats everything."
We almost missed Samuel's baptism! Our son told us the service would begin at 10:00 but Mrs. Gramps thought it was @ 10:30. Of course, I forgot the time myself. Anyway, we decided we would try to get there early and got there just as the service was beginning. Son was standing at the entrance of the church looking for us. Luckily, we got there before the invocation, so it was all good.
Just as the pastor was about to baptze Samuel, though, his big brother, who is less than two, decided to take advantage of the situation. I will let his mother tell the story: See link

Samuel's other grandmother is a neonatal nurse. She did not like the sound of Sam's crying and recommended they take him back in to see the pediatrician. Turns out Sam is continuing to lose weight. The thought is he is not suckling right. Could have been the result of him having to have had a feeding tube while in PICU. They have referred him to a series of specialists to retrain him on suckling.
A pediatric occupational therapist suggested putting Samuel on his side might help reduce is pain level and encourage him to latch better. Seems to be working.

Slight tangent from comments above: There are many different specialisms within OT (and we sometimes develop new ones). As a very general guideline, an OT looks at ways to enable you to continue normal occupations when those are currently hampered by disability or illness, or may use occupations to help you gain or regain your health and strength.
I haven’t met any OTs working with babies, but it makes sense that they could be involved in working out a way for the baby to feed better. It sounds like you have a good OT for Samuel - prayers that he continues to make progress.
Prayers for Samuel. Given time zone differences may it be some comfort while he sleeps [however short], or struggles through the night, someone on the other side of the world is thinking of him.
Please pray for my daughter RR L. She phoned yesterday. Husband A leaving her (the relationship long over, no money left etc, my dog didn't mean to kill your cat, etc ....') L now has financial difficulties. Need to pray with her and that she trusts Our Dear Lord to bring good (and His glory) out of this situation. Mrs RR a rock.

Final update on Samuel. He is still going to occupational therapy. His mother discovered she had been eating something that affected her milk upsetting him. Once she eliminated that food, his pains stopped. He is now gaining weight and is much more alert.

My dear baby granddaughter went to OT for much of her first year of life. They are amazing therapists!
