Ah. I've been entering 2026 liturgical events into iCal. Western Ash Wednesday next year (Feb 18) coincides with National Drink Wine Day. So that I can plan ahead, which takes precedence?

Surely an Ash Wednesday Eucharist covers both?

Wisdom of Solomon. You have shown up the paucity of my liturgical thought.

If a sip of consecrated wine doesn't suffice, you might consider anticipating National Wine Day by getting legless on Mardi Gras, the day before Ash Wednesday. As all right-thinking Catholics do.

  • Is it National Drink Wine Day in the UK? (Not sure where @Foaming Draught hails from).

Five responses already and no one has pointed out that you can just give up abstemiousness for Lent, or even give up sobriety altogether?

    I'm very disappointed. ☹️

Not for the first time, I feel the lack of the ‘like’ button on the ship
  • In answer to my own earlier question, Dr Google tells me that February 18th is National Drink Wine Day in the UK, as well as in the US.

    Cheers!

There is always the the quotes thread which takes a bit of effort and it is a good idea to say why you appreciate but that is how things roll on this board.
