Is there a way to search the forums?

Is there a way to search the forums for threads on a particular topic, so as to avoid starting a fresh thread on a topic already being well discussed?

    No worries :)
  • ... though it might be helpful if you could point us to a place where thread necromancy gets discussed--I mean, I know it's frowned upon to resurrect super old threads, we should start new ones instead, but where are the guidelines written...???

I don’t think it’s written down anywhere - and there’s a contextual consideration. If you raise a dead thread where the people you are replying to are no longer aboard, or restart a foul tempered argument that had petered out - that’s not particularly helpful.

Conversely, if you’re ressurect a thread about, say, what we thought Pope Leo might do in his first year 12 months later, there is now new information and looking back at our predictions against what actually happened might be interesting.
  • Actually, I would like to see a better search feature, where one my search for a certain topic, rather than word. For instance, I may want to search a topic on "Trump" I don't want to see all the messages where "trump," the word, is used.

It would be nice, however, we would need to move to new software- a scale of disruption similar to the move here.

Try using the "site:" keyword on a generic internet search engine:
site:forums.shipoffools.com/discussion "Is there a way to search the forums?"
