March Madness

The Basketball Brackets are forming. Who is going to win? For me, I am rooting for both the Men's University of Idaho Vandels, and the Women Vandals as well. First time I think both teams have been in their respective teams at the same time.

For a moment, when I saw the title of this thread, I thought it might be all about us hares. Sigh.
  • Hares would have something of an advantage in basketball could they develop the manual dexterity to hold the ball with their front paws.

I'd have though front leg span would be the limiting factor.

I'd totally watch kangaroos play basketball though.

I’ll be pulling for the Tar Heels, and for whoever is playing Duke.

Just a note that there has been a Ship of Fools pool for March Madness for several years.

[ETA, I think I've been the only one playing for several years.]

Welp. my bracket has already been busted. UoI Vandals vs Houston Cougars 47-78. No surprise, really.

    Gonzaga is still in.

    Tonight is the women's side.

An upset that left me with nothing but pulling for whoever is playing Duke.

    Sad news: Vandal women lost.

    Good news Gonzaga women won.

    Bulldogs, all the way, now.

This thread could be being used to communicate coded messages to sleeper agents and I would be none the wiser.

Now you know how some of us feel whenever Mornington Crescent appears.

Not to worry. We are not planning the next invasion--yet.
  • CaissaCaissa Shipmate
    Or are we....
  • Gramps49Gramps49 Shipmate
    Maybe...
  • Imagine the trouble Canada would be in if they did invade the USA and the US surrendered right away? Then what? Sorry - what was this thread about?

My fallback position, Gonzaga, is now out. Got hooked by the Texas Longhorns. Going to pick up my chips and go home.

But wait! There is still the NBA and WNBA.

My Raptors clobbered the Suns last night. My Notre Dame women's team also won. Connecticut looks like a shoe-in for the Wone's championship.

P.S. Last time we invaded, Stercus Tauri, we torched the White House.

Hey, this Westerner would not mind if BC annexed the whole West Coast. Probably would have to go through Toronto, though.

Well, there are no perfect men's brackets anymore. I understand 96% of the brackets were busted after the first round.

There is still one perfect women's bracket as of yesterday. It is owned by Otto Schellhammer. He is 14 years old. He claims he knows nothing about the game. Ya, right.
    Story here.

I never cease to be amazed how such a simple game seems to be so difficult for some people to grasp. It's like being confused by naughts and crosses.

Maybe they've never seen it played by Waterloo rules, only the more complex Blackfriars version?

Simple to you, incomprehensible and pointless to me. I grasp the “how” of it, sort of more or less at least. I just don’t grasp the “why” of it. Just announce “Mornington Crescent” and get it over with.

It's like being confused by naughts and crosses.
    You mean tic-tac-toe?

Our separation by a common language strikes again.

Mornington Crescent is a parody of the social process of a certain type of game - the process rather than the destination is the point.

Yes, I know. But it’s a parody that doesn’ttranslate to my cultural experience. The humor is lost in that translation, making the game seem bewildering and pointless.
