Sorry, it had kind of fallen off my radar so thanks for keeping track. I've been moving/changing job over the past three months with no access to the Ship from home so not terribly active. I should be good for posting some questions in a week or so, though.
Oh dear @Garasu, I think its just you and me this month and I'm afraid I couldn't get into the book at all. It sounded in theory the sort of thing I'd like but in practice, no.
I'd be interested in why you enjoyed it and maybe I'll give it another go.
Sorry, I've been a bit run down with an ongoing chest infection the last month and let the book club go by the wayside. Hopefully will join back in in October.
I've tried various of Modesitt's novels over the years with varying degrees of successful engagement. Quite often I find myself intrigued by some of the ideas while struggling to stick with it as story. Adiamante I thought fared somewhat better on the story front than some and I found the political philosophy aspect intriguing... and also disturbing. There's a strong social Darwinist tinge to a lot of it and I'm also inclined to think a certain amount of having his cake and eating it on the attitude to violence/non-violence. I was also very aware of the narrative point of view being from one particular faction and wondering how the story would have been told from one of the other groups' point of view.
I found the writing style very off putting, the fact it plunged you into the story with very little explanation, and that the characters all communicated in ways where it seemed the author had written a list of possible ways in which you could say ‘said’ and I very quickly lost interest. I think this is an author I’m going to avoid.
Sorry no one else was interested.

Hope the house/job move is going well.
