Yes, I saw that and shouted at the screen with a vehemence that surprised the cat.

Not just me, then, although we are catless ...

To explain, at the risk of being boring ...

  • TICTH myself, for wasting money on a totally useless (for me) purchase on eBay.

Having seen an ad on YouTube for mattress toppers, intended to improve one's *sleeping experience* (ha!), I looked on eBay, and ordered one. The brain cell controlling my Spatial Awareness wossname was on strike, and I failed to appreciate the fact that something intended to fit on a double bed was going to come in a Very Large Box, even if folded up.

I also failed to read the destructions until after I'd ordered the thing, at which point I realised that there is simply not enough room in the Ark to lay the topper out flat - it's made of memory foam which needs time to expand, so unpacking it would be like opening Pandora's Box.

Result - delivery this morning to the Arkland Office of a simply huge box, far too big to even put in the back of the car, albeit not heavy...

The Staff were amused, but sympathetic, and the Owner has kindly offered to keep the box in the Office whilst they ask other Arklanders if anyone wants to buy a brand-new standard double mattress topper. O no (sez I) let it be given away, free, gratis, and for nothing, and, if there are no takers, let it be put in the skip. Wasteful, I know, but hopefully, it will go to a good home.

I could have sent my £38 on something useful - like a good single malt WHISKY - but let this be a lesson to me to be more careful in future.
  • Can it not be returned?
  • Can it not be returned?

Possibly, if the seller agreed to accept a return, but it would involve me in a good deal of effort in just taking it to the Po Stoffis - the box is far too big to go into the car - and I would need the assistance of at least two other people.

On the whole, the Owner's offer of keeping it in the Office, and getting his Yard Manager to ask around, is a better deal, despite the £38. Dagon alone knows how much the return postage would be...
    :scream:

Hey ho. Live and learn - I think I'll stick to buying small items (like model railway locomotives :naughty: ) that I can actually carry.

I'm sorry you're not able to use the mattress topper - I wouldn't be without mine. I don't remember it billowing out like demented ectoplasm. If you actually have a double bed, it's not going to be any larger surely?

No, it'll be the same size, but apparently it has to expand upwards, as it were.

My berth is a sort of Dutch-style box bed, so just manoeuvring the topper into position would be difficult. Quite why I didn't think of all this before ordering it is a mystery known only to the gods (if gods there be).

Mine only expanded - if expand it did - to its current depth of a couple of inches. The remarkable thing about memory foam is how much difference a quite thin layer makes.

I think you may be mistakenly denying yourself a treat.
