How about a Budweiser gratis? Agree it’s a crappy brew but better than your own pee; at least served chilled
I have routinely turned down free Budweiser. Also free Miller Lite. I'd rather have a glass of water. Now, if the choice was Budweiser or my own water, I'd probably choke down the Budweiser.
Unless we're talking about the Czech stuff - that's not bad.
At one point Coors was considered the primo American beer, at least by people on the East Coast. That was because it is cold-brewed and unpasteurized. It is only be shipped in refrigerated trucks. It finally opened all 50 states in 1991, I think after Molson bought it out.
*cackle* nope not so desperate. Last person I heard about who did so was a now deceased PM if India who had a glass first thing every morning, for his health🙀
I forget his name but I heard a story about that Indian PM attending a dinner for heads of state after some big conference. The caterers had info on the guests and read that he didn't drink alcohol or tea or coffee so they gave him fruit juice. So they provided apple juice, presumably so as to not make his drink stand out from the mostly wine of the other diners.
Apparently there were people sitting nearby who knew about his 'special' health beverage and couldn't help wondering whether he'd really drink it at an official dinner.
An early day, today, so walking home from work this afternoon I stopped in at a brew pub/outlet where a friend, whom I haven't seen in some months thanks to to the pestilential ebb and flow, works. I tried a pint of their lager (very warm day). The initial draught had the oddest - and very pleasant - note of... popcorn! It faded after the third sip. After that, it was still very flavourful and refreshing. Good to see an old friend and meet a new beer. Simple gifts.

Ah yes, proper Budvar is good stuff
Well aye, mun.
I do like a decent cider. My preference though, is for a decent hand-pulled cask-conditioned ale.
I drink less than I used to but am partial to a pint and also a decent Rioja or Pinot Noir or a jigger or two of Laphroaig.
I've gone off gin. Makes me feel depressed.
I will drink lager with pizza or curry but wouldn't drink it in a pub.
