Wonderful singing, but all the hymns were cut down to the bare minimum

Nice external architecture of the church.

    It's certainly striking!

A good MW Report, though I share @Paterfamilias' exasperation at the shortening of hymns...

Although Our Place is C of E, a former churchwarden was given to instructing organist and cantors (myself and a couple of others) to cut a long hymn short in order *not to keep the priest waiting*.

He would do this by leaving the chancel (he was Head Server) and coming to the organ in the south aisle, and issuing his orders in a loud whisper. Most annoying, and confusing to the heartily-singing Faithful when the hymn abruptly stopped.

Not to mention how cutting the hymn short is potentially damaging to the poetry of the hymn; at the least, it is dismissive of it, and of the value of the assembly’s participation.

Meanwhile, a 19-minute homily in a Catholic church. That’s notable.

  • Not to mention also the teaching of the hymn, as well as the poetry...
