The first time I attended an Evangelical service was as an adult, back in the 1990s. I sat through it wondering when the worship service would begin. I was not so naive as to expect a full liturgy, but I was surprised by the absence of Bible readings. Sadder but wiser, I eventually came to understand that what passes for scriptural reading is a snippet or two that seems to support whatever point the pastor wants to make in the sermon. Maybe it does. Maybe it doesn't. Stripped of all context, there is no saying. I have also learned that this is called the "high view of Scripture."

Yes, I have also seen this dearth of Scripture readings in some churches that claim a high view of Scripture. Very odd, methinks.
