Four Letter Words

in The Circus
Start with one perfectly ordinary four letter word - eg FATE
Next person has to create a new word by changing just one letter - eg FACE
The next person does the same - eg LACE
...and so on
After five changes, the last poster gets to start again with a new word.
Or if the game stalls for 2 days due to no one finding another possible change, anyone can step in and restart with a new word.
So, I give you ....

IDEA
IDES (this could be a tricky one!)
Give it a day (there is at least one possibility I think).
PILE
next one is the last - all change!

BOOT
Would this game be improved if, after five words have been posted, the next player must use all five in a sentence and then suggest a new word?

Ooh, now that sounds like fun... tho 5 might prove a bit too much of a challenge... maybe make it 4 changes per word. And it might also help if we numbered each variation so people can see straight away when we've got to 4?
I will post an update to the rules - meanwhile would you care to do the honours, Amanda?

**After FOUR changes, the next poster has to use all 5 words (incl the original) in a sentence, and can then re-start the game with a new word.
To help keep track, please number each change - so
FATE
1 FACE
2 LACE
3 LICE
4 LIKE
As FATE would have it, on the FACE of it, it seemed the LACE had become infested with LICE, which I really did not LIKE.
New word - DUCK
Would you like to resume the game with a sentence and a new word, please!
BOOT - BOON - LOON - MOON - SOON - SOOT - FOOT
As the loon crooned by the light of the moon, he thouht he would soon put his foot, covered with soot, into his boot.
GREAT
Allow me to reconfigure 4 of the letters to
GATE
The count starts with the next post - 1 of 4 substitutions of 1 letter.
The fifth response gets to put all 5 words into a sentence, and re-start with a new word
1. RATE
2. RITE
3. RILE
4. RISE
As we approached the GATE for the football match, the RATE at which the away supporters arrived was alarming, and before we knew it, their RITE of chanting "MII-IILL-WAAA-AAALLL!" began to RILE us, but we didn't RISE to their bait; we are Ipswich supporters, and therefore gentlemen.
Next starter word:
CHAT
New starter word:
BRAG
I hate to BRAG, but you can't BEAT this NEAT BEAN BRAN — it's delicious!
0. COLD
(Though now I'm confused. Does the starter word count, so that word 4 is the fifth post? Or is it starter word, words 1,2,3,4 then sentence + new word?)
It's starter word, then 4 updated words, then sentence and new word - so your last post was word No 2, and 2 more to come.
1: FOLD
2: BOLD
3: BALD
(1 more variation to come)
1: FOLD
2: BOLD
3: BALD
4. BAND
It was so COLD that I was very glad to FOLD myself into a warm coat, and I thought it very BOLD when I saw the BALD men in the BAND in their summer uniforms.
