It Will Be Alright

in Kerygmania
Mark 13
This chapter is known as the Little Apocalypse. It talks about the end times.
Do you read this with fear?
Is there hope? Where?
How should we react when we see such signs?
What does this say about the current political situation we see in the United States,
I see a lot of hope in the passage. While we are seeing such signs on the world stage, it is not something to fear.
Birth pangs--never directly felt them myself, but I knew when they were beginning, it would be a long night; but in the end we would be blessed with a child. Those children are still blessings.
The fig tree. When we see new leaves appearing on the branches, we expect to see fruit shortly. Contrast to Jesus cursing the fig tree in Ch 11: 12ff.
I am seeing Jesus saying, It will be alright. You have your assignments. Carry On

The people of Jesus' time no doubt saw shooting stars all the time. Fast forward now to where we are tracking objects in space that can be on a likely collision coarse with earth.
Here is my problem, though. I will be preaching at a conservative parish. There are a few liberals there. Now, if Trump had lost, I would have addressed the growing dissent among MAGA followers. Since, Harris lost, what should the message be?
13 As Jesus was leaving the temple, one of his disciples said to him, “Look, Teacher! What massive stones! What magnificent buildings!”
2 “Do you see all these great buildings?” replied Jesus. “Not one stone here will be left on another; every one will be thrown down.”
Their temptation is going to be to put their hope and faith in Trump and political success; point them back to Christ,as nothing of this world is going to last or do any ultimate good—“every stone will be thrown down.” But the Lord our Rock remains forever. You might slip in some warnings against idolatry while you’re at it.
A word about the sin of Pride, as well as the sin of Idolatry, might also be appropriate (if perhaps unwelcome).
The love of God is stronger than all evil added together.
As Julian of Norwich said ‘All Shall be well.’
All things are possible with God.
When we love and trust in God, we will always have hope.
