A dull unstimulating day here. After swimming and, later on, shopping, we decided to go to the garden centre. Although I despise Christmas displays so early, it was actually nice to be there.
I may have to thank @Bishops Finger for the absolutely glorious Sun Shine that's been beaming down on West Lothian today - did you send it northwards?
After a moderately successful choir practice (considering that most of the "hymns" were unadulterated crud), one of the gentlemen treated us all to coffee (and BACON ROLLS for those of us who hadn't had breakfast yet) in the cafe along from the church, which was most enjoyable.
Then home for some quite a lot of snoozage, and as it was such a glorious day, I ambled down to Tessie's to stock up on this and that.
Supper will eventually be fish cakes with potato salad and greenery.
BF, I was a bit worried about you when I saw all those apostrophe's ...
Grey here. I am having a lazy day to make up for the busy workload this week. So just a bit of laundry and tidying, and I have caught up with The Traitors.
Lunch was sausages and eggs in a fresh baguette and think Mr Heavenly intends to cook venison stew for tea.
I can't quite get my act together today after my short break, so I have achieved very little apart from restocking the fridge and two lots of washing. I intended to go to the church coffee morning but wasn't organised in time, so I went after lunch as there is an art exhibition on ( and they were still serving coffee and cake in the choir vestry). I would have bought a painting if I had found one I liked. I did like several but they would not have been right for the room in question.
Having had my meals provided all week I am struggling to know what to cook, so it might be the lamb hot pot ready meal I bought this morning.
We had a glorious afternoon of sunshine and no wind. Gardening was done and a tree moved from a pot to a space at the back of the garden. I’m not sure if it’ll thrive there, but it wasn’t doing great in a pot anyway. In exchange another tree was moved to the border nearer the house which I hope suits it better too. The vacated pot was filled with a bay tree whose pot broke during last winters frosts.
This evening will be spent drinking wine and watching Strictly.
Make the most of it. Winter Drawers On, as the saying is.
Nice and cosy in the Ark this evening, with SOUP, and SOSSIDGE SANWIDGES, for later.
Also CHEESE.
Cool and cloudy, but dry, weather is forecast for tomorrow, which is Our Place's Patronal Festival (a week or so early, to avoid half-term!). The service will be taken by our Flying Bishop, and is to include three confirmations - two from Our Place, and one from Next-Door Place - which is encouraging.
Has a suitable runway been prepared? Or a landing-pad marked with a big B in a circle?
Yes, it's an unfortunate term - Provincial Episcopal Visitor is correct. The best he can hope for is a parking place, jealously guarded from the depredations of the neighbours, by Churchwardens armed with large Dogs.
Rather saddened/annoyed to see “happy Halloween “ items alongside Christmas items in W***rose Abergavenny. And a poster for a firework display outside!
Beautiful Autumnal day. Early light lunch and off to a Lino cut workshop which was quite fun. Still a lovely autumnal afternoon when I emerged. Lambie bits marinated in lemon/olive oil/chilli and fresh rosemary for dinner.
Flu vaccine and Covid booster today. Beginning to feel it in my upper arms, just in time for bed. Not looking forward to being unable to sleep comfortably on either side for the next couple of nights.
Grey and overcast here. I have just waved Mr Nen off on a Hearty Walk with his Hearty Walking Friends and am looking forward to some time Home Alone. I may take myself out for a mooch and a coffee at our local garden centre. I may catch up on Strictly. I am bunking off church to get maximum time to myself, plus the speaker this morning is someone I avoid if at all possible.
I almost wish I'd bunked off church (see previous post and post in Eccles re: cruddy hymns), but aside from that it was OK.
I shall console myself forthwith with brunch of poached eggs, smoked salmon and TOAST.
Not a bad day - cloudy but dry, which suits me fine.
Not quite sure what supper's going to be; I bought some venison the other day and put it in the freezer with the intention of making a casserole in the slow-cooker today, but did I remember to take it out of the freezer last night? I did not.
It'll probably have to be some sort of pasta concoction instead (not that that's such a bad thing).
A good morning at church today, and now in the garden replacing fence panels. It's totally the wrong time of year to prune the things at the back, but needs must today.
Though I had a lazy day yesterday, Mr Heavenly was very busy and finished painting the airing cupboard door and replaced half the floorboards on the landing (the plumbers who fitted our boiler 5 years ago did a good job of hacking and loosening the floorboards). The landing and stairs are now painted and all tidy for the carpet fitters next week.
We walked to Waitrose this morning to do our regular bits and pieces shopping of things we can’t get in our regular organic delivery. Lunch was fresh bread, cheese, olives and stuffed cherry peppers. I am skipping church later as the battery in our car has given up; Mr Heavenly is cycling in to do the set up.
It was very foggy this morning. I was walking to church looking at the changing colour of the leaves on the trees, smelling of the sugar factor roasting sugar beet and listening to the sound of geese flying from one lake to another. It is well and truly autumn.
This afternoon we went for a stroll along the river and back. Not far, but the sun was breaking through as we returned.
Rather saddened/annoyed to see “happy Halloween “ items alongside Christmas items in W***rose Abergavenny. And a poster for a firework display outside!
Our local hardware+ store in Australia had Halloween Ghouls alongside Xmas decorations.
It's fine and sunny just now but it looks like some clouds may be coming over. My washing is out anyway.
Today it's doodle zoom art followed by warm spot followed by gardening. Then I have a postcard to make for our local heritage group. It's going to be a leaflet in the form of a postcard. We're having a recruitment evening for all the local historical buildings guardians to give talks, the church, the hunting lodge, the museum, the town hall and the town square all of which are very ancient.
We have just 2000 resident but we are a town - having been given town status in the 11th century. Cheddar, next door, has 6000 and is 'only' a village!
Damp and drizzly here in the East Midlands. I got quite wet walking to my Pilates class this morning. The class was tough, I really cannot 'roll like a ball'!
I've been sorting out some admin stuff, including organising a meeting that I've been intending to do for ages, but shortly I'm going to sit down, crack on with some knitting and listen to a podcast or two. My husband is out tonight so I'm looking forward to quiz night on BBC2.
After a couple of days of blue skies and brilliant sunshine, equally typical autumnal weather of damp and grey. Coming up Morningside I could see (or not see) the Pentlands covered by low cloud.
Art Group was still life, then a circuitous route home via M&S food and two buses.
Recycled gammon and potato soupifying on the stove.
I have a Pilates class this afternoon as well and always find it pretty hard work in an "Ouch, I'm sure it's doing me good" sort of way. A couple of weeks ago one particular exercise gave me back trouble afterwards so I'll be avoiding that one in future; I am not generally prone to Back Trouble.
A dull grey day here and having got to this point in the afternoon I'm not expecting it to change.
Grey and light drizzle here. I’ve done my usual admin, emails, planning etc, reviewed some tutorial slides and phoned a student. I am now having a break. This evening I will give a 2 hour tutorial on: overview of the death, dying and bereavement module/introduction to ethics/is death a taboo subject/reflective journaling.
Grey and cloudy here in Arkland the Dismal, though still quite mild. The wind has shifted to the north-east, which is OK, as it's very light. The relatively mild and calm conditions are (They say) likely to last for few more days. Trees round about here are very much in autumn mode, with lots of leaves on the roads and pavements. Pumpkintide approaches, and a neighbouring Ark has been embellished with two Ghosts (presumably those of Witches, as they have black, pointy Hats), and a scary bright red Face Of Satan. Neighbour J says the FoS is that of her partner, A
of her, as they're a very pleasant (if idiosyncratic) couple.
Tess Coe has been visited, and I'm now waiting for some ROAST POTATOES to cook in the Dragon. They will accompany some cold SOSSIDGES baked earlier, which I realised had to be eaten by today.
Pilates tomorrow, and hopefully the exercises will again be beneficial. The weather helps, too - when it's cold and damp, my Legs ache summink crool.
It was a bit misty-moisty here this morning too, although it was pleasant enough by the time I was coming home from work (which was decently but not horribly busy; Mondays tend to be like that, as A and L don't work on Mondays. Although for reasons best known to herself, L sent me several emails asking for things to be printed. What part of "doesn't work on Mondays" doesn't she understand???
Supper was what David and I used to call The Sausage Thing - sausages cooked with rice, flavoured with paprika and saffron, with prawns and peas added at the end. It was rather nice, and even though I had seconds, there's still plenty for tomorrow.
Ooh, it's a day for sausages, isn't it! We had a sausage, apple and potato hash for our tea.
Its definitely turning to Autumn - I've had three different types of tea today, bog standard decaf, apple and cinnamon and a 'winter warmer' one with eucalyptus and echinacea.
More clothes sorting achieved, resulting in needing to iron some winter items crushed from storage. Now I have more hanging space they can stay out all year round. Some sorting of shelves in my study, plus lots of time wasted online.
I practised pieces ready for this evening’s choir rehearsal, having missed last week’s. We have now mastered one of the pieces we are due to sing in January ( VW’s Toward the Unknown Region ) and polishing ‘Elijah’ for November. Brahms’ Schicksalslied is still a work in progress.
Tomorrow my daughter is coming to do some gardening and I will be having both flu and Covid jabs. I’m hoping there will be no ill effects, but sleeping with two sore arms ( not to mention knees and hips) will be tricky.
I had a flu jab on Saturday, which led to an arm which ached slightly - it was really very minor. Then yesterday I had a B12 one in the same place, which was slightly painful for a few moments. I'm not eligible for Covid (nor is my wife, who actually had it a week or so ago, so I presume she's now immune anyway).

Its definitely turning to Autumn - I've had three different types of tea today, bog standard decaf, apple and cinnamon and a 'winter warmer' one with eucalyptus and echinacea.
I love trying different types of tea. My everyday tea is redbush - taken black. Another go-to is ginger, lemon and tumeric. 🙂
Grey with occasional light drizzle here, the sun keeps trying to break through but it’s fighting a losing battle.
A day off for me so I went for a long walk then logged in to do some studies. I finished my research proposal last week so proof read that ready for submission. Part 2 of my assignment is a short PowerPoint presentation with an option for audio explanation (for the confident). My presentation is written and I’ll try out the audio this afternoon as I have no excuse not to.
Someone has just invited me to present an equality and diversity workshop on bipolar disorder and I’ve never presented this subject before so I’m itching to write this instead. I’m feeling slightly distracted from the work I need to do and I’m probably hypomanic.
Another dull day here, but it doesn't look quite so wet. I haven't been out yet, but will be heading out in a while to the dentist for a check-up. On the way back I need to go into the corner shop (aka Waitrose) to buy some wraps for the meal my husband is cooking for tea and the ingredients for a cake to take to the launch of the Repair Cafe a few of us are launching on Saturday. I'm going to try and make a gluten-free and vegan almond cake.
This morning wasn't totally given over to laziness. I made a large batch of soup, some for lunch and two lots to freeze for later. I managed to do some of my jigsaw and listen to a podcast at the same time.
This evening I'm supposed to be going to a talk, but at the moment I really don't feel in the mood.
Gammon and Potato SOUP a la@Firenze sounds quite delicious to me...
Another grey but calm day in Arkland the Dull, though the wind has turned more northerly, and is therefore a bit thinner IYSWIM.
A lot of Errands today - first, to the Farmer See for the next eight weeks' worth of Drugs (how the months fly by... ), then to a most gruelling Pilates sessions, where some breathing exercises were needed, followed by a totter around the Co-Op for Ham and BEER, and finishing up at the Arkland Offis for parcels. I now have a nice big Friesian flag to hoist on the Ark, to counter some of the Union and Ingerlaaand flags which have appeared recently.
The Ark was actually built in the Dutch province of Groningen, to the east of Friesland, so a suitable flag has been ordered to complete the set - I already have the national tricolour of the Netherlands. My first Ark was from Friesland...my favourite part of a pleasant and understated country.
Lunch will probably be Battered PRAWNS n'CHIPS, with more BEER.
I actually slept for seven hours solid last night, but it must have addled my brain. I knew I was due for my jabs but managed to go to the wrong venue! I could see straightaway it was not set up for mass groups of jabs so I spoke to the receptionist who went out of her way to be helpful, looked up records and confirmed it was back in my home town. She kindly advised me not to rush as it would not matter if I was a bit late. She was right.
My daughter then arrived to weed my drive and front garden. It was a bit chilly but I stood chatting with her. After lunch I got a request from a friend to help with her POA application- so I have done nothing on my To Do list for today, except to cook a kedgeree and freeze a portion.

Slight hitch in that the last fence panels we removed was 5ft 7 and the panel we have ready to go in is 6ft. Darn it.
This afternoon we went for a stroll along the river and back. Not far, but the sun was breaking through as we returned.
Laundry laundered, bathroom cleaned and hooverage accomplished.
Dust Ing will have to wait - I've run out of oomph.
Our local hardware+ store in Australia had Halloween Ghouls alongside Xmas decorations.
Mine usually come in a cardboard carton.

Drat!
Blame the footie!
