An urgent email from FatherInCharge today, requesting all who can to come to Mass this evening, and then to stay for an emergency meeting to discuss:
1. A suspended ceiling in the Hall;
2. Accepting a substantial grant for new windows in the Hall;
3. The problems of illicit parking on our off-road spaces next to the Hall;
4. The cost of utility bills.
It's the middle of HOLY WEEK, for God's sake - why the dickens can't these nuts-and-bolts matters (important though they are) wait a week or two?
I've replied to FInC, in sorrow rather than anger, remarking that Our Place is giving the impression of somewhat skewed priorities...
My goodness, how did he even have the time to think of those things right now?
Good question, but I suspect that there is some pressure from Certain People who see the Hall, and its usage, as their own personal fiefdom. In all fairness, those People (both of whom are on the Parochial Church Council) have worked very hard for many years to make fundraising events a success, but I think (as you can guess) that they've made a mistake with the timing...
I also suspect that FInC will not be too disappointed if tonight's O-So-Vital meeting is a washout...though he will be disappointed if attendance at the Triduum Services is below par.
Our "pop-up" Lent group has come to an end and there are discussions afoot about it becoming a home group. As I said before, it has made me realise how much I miss being in a small group but I'm unconvinced we're going to find an evening that everyone can make or that everyone will be up for it... so we'll see what happens after Easter.

Finding mutually acceptable dates/times is indeed a perennial problem, however much the home group (or whatever) is wanted. The *pop-up* groups during Lent or Advent seem to be a little easier to arrange, and well worth exploring further at the appropriate time(s) of year.
There's a couple at St Pete's who run a Lent study course at their house (and maybe an Advent one too - I can't remember). As it's in the middle of the afternoon on a work day, I wouldn't be available anyway, but those who go certainly seem to get something out of it (apart from tea and CAKE!).
I think it's often the case that people are willing to put other commitments on hold for a limited period of time, as indeed I was for this. I wouldn't be willing to give up my regular Thursday evening commitment permanently, though.
An Advent group is a good idea; I might give that some thought towards the end of the year.

Yes. Our Place has had some small success (AFAIK) with a few people staying behind after the 10am Mass on Mondays during Lent to watch a YouTube video about the Nicene Creed...
A previous monthly Bible study group, on a Friday evening, ceased last year, the only regular attender (apart from our two clergy) having died...not on a Friday evening, I hasten to add, but unexpectedly at home.
