100 Day Report Card

Ever since the inauguration of Franklin D Roosevelt in the 30s the first 100 days of every president has been considered a measuring point. In Roosevelt's day, he got the Congress to pass 15 key legislation pieces setting y=up the basis for his New Deal,

Trump's second 100 days is coming up on April 30. The report card for him looks pretty dismal even when it is coming from his favorite news channel: FOX.. I appears the only category he is above water in is his handling of Social Security. But I would say, that is because his machining of it has yet to take effect.

I would also say while members of his cabinet have yet to reach their 100 days of office, they are not doing good either. Just to name a few:

Rubio. He is the descendant of Cuban refugees, but he has been very tough of immigrants, cancelling legitimate visas, bumbling in foreign meetings, continuing to support the genocide of Gaza, and being ineffectual with Russia. The loss of USAID was his first mistake.

Kennedy. Since taking office, he has slashed the Health Department by 1/3, I think. . He has also slashed hot meal programs and is talking about slashing the meals on wheels programs and food pantry support. He has stopped some key research on disease control. About the only thing I think he has done that I would support is the decision to cut synthetic dyes from food items.

Noem. Department of Homeland Security. Comes across as a strong woman, but has made some blunders too. Like her going down to CECOT in El Salvador wearing a Rolodex watch, and not saying who paid for her trip down there. I guess it was not government funded. Then on top of that having her purse stolen from her while she was dining. She is in charge of FEMA too. She has cut much of the guts of that program out. Disaster victims throughout the US are still waiting of their checks.

Hegseth. Signalgate II. Not only did he spill the beans to a journalist during an actual attack on Yemen, he was also relaying the same information to his wife, brother and personal lawyer on a separate Signal Chat. Turns out he had an unauthorized direct line installed in his office so he could bypass the military communications system from a dirty computer, meaning the computer was not secure. He fired four of his advisors. Some of them are saying the Pentagon is in a shambles now.

Rollins. Don't hear much about him unless you are a farmer. Farmers are hoping if Trump does follow through on the tariff threat, they will be bailed out for the loss of market. No word on that yet. He has cut a number of programs that encouraged farmers to adapt to climate change.

And, then there is Elon Musk. Too bad his Tesla company has lost only 71% of its value. Wish it were more.

And then there is the "ahem" sorry excuse for Attorney General Bondi. She thinks she is Trump's personal prosecutor. He signs memorandums to go after his personal enemies. She carries them out. But this takes the cake: Yesterday a local Milwaukee circuit judge was accused of obstruction of justice by the DOJ. Here is the newspaper report.

None of the people I listed above deserve a grade above an F or 0, depending on how you give out grades.

To be fair, it may be a reasonable step to stop minting US pennies.
