  • @Puzzler, I had a day of routine going out the window too. I don't know how, but I think I've managed to get all the things done, just not in the order I expected. I have one outstanding task, which is to wash the bath towels, but that can wait until tomorrow.

I fitted in a walk around the neighbourhood, so I think that was a win and more important than keeping to the strict routine of doing things. However, I hope normal routine will resume tomorrow as I prefer to do my jobs in the morning and have free time in the afternoon. Today I had some free time this morning as I waited for a phone call to be returned, but everything has been done and that's the main thing!!
  • I've been out of routine all week and trying to get back on track has been a challenge. Top of the list is wash the towels!!! So far I've managed to achieve

Walk the cats - only one today, the other one was asleep
    Wash towels and sheets
Mending socks, trying a couple of different methods
Put away paperwork for son's medical appointments
Text my friend (child having a procedure today)
    Load dishwasher

I hope I might sweep some leaves a bit later this afternoon, but am having some downtime right now.

Zero Waste stall this morning - I got some lovely yellow roses thrown out by the Co-op, and one lady had brought her surplus courgettes.
So I've just been looking up recipes to do with courgettes, and the next step is going out to buy the extra ingredients.
This afternoon, I'm leading a tour around the local ancient monuments, after which I will probably have to have a little lie down!

I’ve realised that I am quite thrown if something in the plans changes, even if they are just my own plans. Maybe I need to put less on my Today To Do list.
I have a long term list, a by a certain date list, and a Today list. But things happen, or don’t happen, or I am just lazy.
This morning I visited the exhibition I had thought was the previous day, so at least I got something right. I met several people I knew and some old friends too. Interesting conversations.
I also picked up my prescription.
Must do a top up shop and my daily quota of music prep.
Anything else will be a bonus.
  • Our neighbor is holding his monthly neighborhood brunch in the yard this morning. All are welcome to stop by, and a tip jar is available to help cover the cost of food. He started this last summer, and it's a great hit, as we're all getting to meet each other. Next, my son is coming to visit from Southern California for the weekend, so that will be fun. A very social weekend for me, who lives alone.

Getting ready for my sister to visit today, so hoovering.
Also I bought a new plain brown lightshade, which will do until I find something more to my taste.
  • Write a sermon, which is bound to go over like a lead balloon.
Fortunately, I'm not preaching it, so no matter.

    Make 3 dozen Cornish pasties.

Get flowers in case the lotus aren't ready for tomorrow.

Take a nap (tried, didn't happen.) :disappointed:

Fix 50 million capitalization mistakes in a single manuscript (grrrrrr).

    Lunch at Japanese place.

Time at home with my journal. I haven't had time at home alone since before we went away for a week to celebrate our son's wedding and I'm feeling a bit desperate :anguished: . Mr Nen is out this afternoon so I Have Hope.

Church to play and be nice to the biddies.
    Cook dinner.
Maybe mow the tiny patch of grass we have if I can summon the energy post chest infection.
Chase up the local Methodist minister who has asked me to play for a funeral, but who has yet to tell me the hymns etc. (Also how to get into the the church to practice on the organ which is on its last legs and dying bit by bit.)
  • A quick walk
    Feed the birds
Continue to fill a skip with detritus from our garden
    Sweep and clean the patio
    Church this evening
  • PuzzlerPuzzler Shipmate
Practise music, double as I missed yesterday.
    Cooked lunch.

No one was going for coffee after church - two of my usual post-church drinking companions were away and the other seemed to have other plans. So I came home and had a lot of quality journal time, which was really nice.

    Started off very nicely:
Picked up some veg from the Zero Waste stall,
    Chatted to neighbours
Watched a video I was sent of the guided tour I led last week (I actually look like I know what I'm doing!)
The bin men took my recycling (hurrah!)
and then the postman delivered a letter from British Gas, reminding me to pay a bill I don't owe them. I'm getting pretty good at finding the complaint form on their website now, and then there was the phone call to "resolve the complaint", which resolved the fact that I don't have to pay them, but did not resolve the underlying problem that I just want them to send me the right bill.
Back to nice things - two parcels arrived, and I collected them from work
Now I'm waiting for my sister to arrive with some furniture, and then we're going out for lunch.
  • Water garden, three walks for the dog. The rest of the day is unclear to me, except to pay a bill and recover from a great three-day visit with my son.

Update on yesterday's rant - British Gas have emailed me the right bill! Hallelujah!
So now my to do list is to print it out and take it round to the Post Office to pay it. I'm taking no chances about it getting lost in the ether!

    Awake at 4.50.
Went to the shop across the road at 8. Answered various emails.
Son came and made the front garden look presentable.
Lunch. Now faffing around on here deciding what to do. Music practice is top of the list, then sorting clothes in readiness for going away next week.
Sausage casserole is already in the slow cooker.
  • People will finish installing air conditioning today. The old part of the house was built in 1858, so it has taken 167 years of thinking about it.
  • Can't rush these things @Stercus Tauri !!

Did all things bin and got them into the road

Off to Hereford tomorrow to buy train tickets to get to the airport when I go on holiday.
And to buy more ink for my printer.
Which will give me plenty of time to browse the charity shops and have a coffee before the bus home.
  • Could you not purchase the tickets on line (not using Trainline as they charge commission}?
  • PuzzlerPuzzler Shipmate
Today I did my music practice first.
    Washing
    Tidying.
Looking at possible trains for a forthcoming journey.
Waited for son to deliver something important, then met daughter and grandson for lunch.
    Scrabble group.
Relax, then catch up with emails.
    Tea
Mowed lawn and did a bit of pruning. Put bins out.
    Tv and ipad.
    Car servicing tomorrow.

@Baptist Trainfan I deliberately never buy train tickets online, because I want our local ticket office at the station to stay open. Also, when I buy tickets in person for a route I'm unfamiliar with, the staff can usually give me good advice, and often find a cheaper ticket, than I could find online.
  • Alan29Alan29 Shipmate
Talking of stations,we are collecting ou 16 year old grandson from the station today. He is staying with us for a couple of days to break his post exam tedium. He is a lovely young man.

You make some good points. When I lived in Ipswich, the ticket office people often told people to buy a return ticket to Manningtree (the next station down the line) and a return from there to London - due to a historical quirk that was cheaper than a "through" ticket. It was also perfectly legal, provided you didn't come home on the 5pm "East Anglian" which didn't stop at Manningtree.

Why is it that I get so much more done on days when I am already busy?
    Today:
    Shopping
    Tidying
    Car servicing
Cleaning, dusting, even clearing the top of the piano.
    Emails
    Prep for French group
Washing folded and put away, but ironing of summer cotton items not yet done
    Music practice

True for all of us, I think.

My to do list is always the same:

    1. Survive
    2. Make sure I don't irritate enough people to make myself more isolated at the end of the day than I was at the start.
    3. Do whatever the first two require.

That's it. That's all I've ever done, really.
