Okay, but I think "privatize" is usually used with the same meaning as in "Margaret Thatcher privatized British Airways." That is, a wholly government-owned enterprise, established at least ostensibly for the public good, is sold to private businesses looking to operate it strictly for a profit.
That being said, I'm curious as to how a non-monetized World Cup would be different from what exists now. Sincere question, because I'm not familiar with all the economic ins and outs of the World Cup in its current incarnation.
It is currently a body independent of any state - at least in principle. So not influenced by any country who may take part. It means that all nations who want to participate have to qualify on a broadly equal footing - no free passes. And countries who want to host it have to make a good case as to why they should and why they can produce a good competition (in theory as well - obviously, recently, it is who pays the Infant most money.)
That is as it should be - anything else makes the whole competition pointless.
Not a football fan but this is on the news quite a lot. I see both the English and Welsh associations would vote against the current FIFA leaders renewal
