Of a despised creditor: 'I wouldn't give them the steam from my piss'.

"I wouldn't piss on them if they were on fire" as an expression of contempt.

When I was a student (some sixty years ago), weak tasteless corporate beer was known as 'gnat's piss'.

A phrase often used by those from the north of England when referring to beer brewed in the South.

Or "sex in a canoe* beer"
    fucking close to water

Definitely heard in the American South.

    And heard in Maritime Canada.
  • And then there's the story of how two supermarket chains, A&P and Stop and Shop, were considering a merger. They were going to call it Stop and P.

    Does A&P still exist?

That sounds a little like the story that went around that Nottingham Polytechnic was going to rename itself City University Nottingham on Trent; also told of City University Newcastle upon Tyne and Sheffield Hallam Institute of Technology...

I believe the overarching body for evangelical Christian Unions at one point proposed naming itself the Christian Union Movement.

'pisse de nonne' (nun's pee) used to be a common expression in French for weak coffee or tea.
In trying to confirm this phrase (which I couldn't find) I came across a lot of websites about nuns which I could hardly believed existed.
However in the same vein it confirmed 'petits pets de nonnes' (little nun's farts) which is a small choux pastry.

    Love it😆

My late mother was neurotically fixated about her bowel function ( read chronic constipation) and my devout & irreverent father firmly maintained that the nuns’ at her 1930s boarding school’s fixation about bowel function and the need to hold in one’s farts ( read Epsom’s salts very Saturday) was at the root of her irrational anal anxieties…

Sadly no. What was left of it folded in 2015.

However Piggly Wiggly, which originated checkout lines and self-service grocery aisles, is still around, though I don’t think it has much of anything to add to this thread.

No - The Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company disappeared (in Canada, anyway) something like twenty years ago, and the stores were taken over by one of the other big chains. (When I first visited my in-laws in New York state in August 1972 the A&P was the only place locally that provided the blessed relief of air conditioning).
  • Don't think we have had "a streak of piss" - as a term for a useless person.

Was she also subject to peer pressure?

    A loaded question…

Tradition tells that the Firth of Forth was created by a female giant, the Gyre Carling. An early C16th play states that scho pischit the mekle watter of Forth (she pissed the great water of Forth).

There's also Lyndon Johnson's line about being inside the tent pissing out.

That was used, albeit insufficiently, in the Brexit debate, when the Remainers failed to emphasise that “We would be better in the tent pissing out, than outside the tent pissing in”. Margaret Thatcher often threatened to leave the EU and got all sorts of concessions, but having left we have lost our #1 negotiating tool.
