  • I hope the plans go well Piglet
(Hugs) to you Jemima the 9th
No yoga for me at the moment, strict rest so that my broken toe heals properly (which it appears to be doing now I am immobile). But being in the house all the time is really getting me down as I manage my SAD by going for walks.
Need to do more marking today...
  • My laptop failed to start this morning when I went to have a look at the hedgehog antics recorded last night on my wildlife camera. It did this before, and my workaround worked that time, but even after replacing the battery and the workaround doesn’t.
So I can’t get on with various bits & bobs until the replacement arrives and the data transferred to it. Which is a Good Thing because I am getting on with working through a rather neglected to-do list - mostly things that can be sorted in a couple of hours each, so I’ll get a good feeling of completion and a shorter to-do list.
  • Odd, isn't it? Once the lifeline of the internet is removed (even if only temporarily), Real Life™ somehow gets a look-in once more...

    Sadly, it was.
I managed to abandon the interweb for a few minutes this morning and exercise the Iron Ing.

It was only one shirt, but still ...
  • Oh I still have the internet - so can still fritter away to-do time (so far today: planted a greengage tree, dug up all my parsnips to freeze, finished a bit of diy that’s been lingering for 8 months)
  • That's not a bad day's work, IMHO - especially the tree-planting bit!

But at least Alba is blessed with a Leader who has a Decent Haircut, unlike a certain other part of the Disjointed Kingdom...

I have a confession - I've spent the afternoon in major snoozage. I couldn't understand why I was feeling so sleepy - it's not as if I've done anything today - but when I woke up, I realised it must have just been "emotional tiredness" after yesterday, and M., my host, said exactly the same thing (her husband died about 15 years ago, and she had to do the same thing).

I feel much better for it - I'm going to spend the evening making some bread, which is always therapeutic.
  • I assume Quality Bear Time helps with emotional tiredness.
    ((Hugs))

  • PigletPiglet All Saints Host, Circus Host
It does indeed, although this afternoon I managed to doze off without any ursine input at all! I have a very understanding Small Bear who I hope will help me fall asleep later, when I'm actually supposed to ...
  • Emotional Tiredness sounds like a really good and sensible explanation. I hope the snooze was restorative and you still get to sleep tonight.

Hope you manage to get out and about soon, Heavenlyannie.

Yoga was indeed lovely. It is absolutely one of the best things I do with my life. I think my teacher is actually magic...

I did manage to sleep extremely well last night; I went to bed quite late, but had no trouble at all getting to sleep (thank you Truffle Teddy*).

    * When he adopted us, he came with a little box of chocolate truffles, which had no bearing whatsoever on our decision to buy him.
ION, I've just succeeded in booking my flights home. On the interweb. All by myself. I did try to engage the services of a travel agent, but she couldn't book the last leg of the flight because it was with Easy Jet; as it was, I ended up going with Air Canada and Fly Be because it didn't look as if I could take as many bags as I'm going to need with the cheapies. It meant the flight cost a good bit more, but it's done now.

Now if I can just find a job and a flat when I get there - prayers for miracles may be required ... :flushed:
  • @Piglet what an accomplishment! And so good that you have such a sleep-inducing bear.

Today I collected my new laptop and so have spent a good few hours getting the basics set up on it (especially Ship access!), ready for the wizards to copy files over from the old one tomorrow. Then I can get on with the orchestra admin stuff that I was working on.
  • PigletPiglet All Saints Host, Circus Host
    Happy new laptop!
  • Well done on the flight booking Piglet! When do you touch down in Edinburgh?
  • And will you have a roof over your head? Ra*n and Sn*w are not unknown in Edinburgh...
    :worried:
ION, a most beautifully sunny day here in the Vale of Tears formerly known as England, despite the worst efforts of TPTB to ruin the lives of all except themselves.

A nice pork PIE for lunch, together with some ALE, has cheered me up, and there is CHEESE for later on...

  • ... some ALE, has cheered me up ...
Shepherd Neame, one presumes - not that I drink the stuff.

  • Mmmmm, pork pie, ale and cheese. Yummy.
  • In the Jt9 household, I’ve been home with kid b who has a nasty virus - a high temperature and generally feeling lousy. We have been binge watching Lewis, we’re both very fond of detective series on the telly, and Lewis is a firm favourite.

Great work on the flights, piglet. I find booking anything like that online really difficult, I am in admiration of your success. (And hoorah for truffle teddy.)

Well done on the flight booking Piglet! When do you touch down in Edinburgh?
    1 o'clock in the afternoon on Monday 17th. :)

I'm going to be staying with my sister until I get back on my feet; I've seen one or two flats on the Web that look affordable, but I'll need to find Gainful Employment if I'm going to be able to live in them!

Meanwhile, it looks as if the weather gods are going to make sure I leave with a memory of what Canadian winters are known for ... :flushed:
  • ... some ALE, has cheered me up ...
Shepherd Neame, one presumes - not that I drink the stuff.

Yes indeed, but I agree - not to everyone's taste!

  • PigletPiglet All Saints Host, Circus Host
D's sister lives just along the road from the Shepherd Neame brewery; IIRC their mum has shares in it, and used to go along to their AGM.
  • SarasaSarasa All Saints Host
Glad you've got your flights booked @Piglet. It's all come together very quickly.
  • So pleased that the admin has worked out, @Piglet - and you know you have our prayers, in abundance x
  • I have a bottle of their organic Whitstable Bay on the side - if I had know that was this evening’s preferred brewer I would have had that instead of the bottle of Prospect.
Hope the move goes well and the weather holds off, Piglet.
  • PigletPiglet All Saints Host, Circus Host
Thanks, all! We didn't get quite as much sn*w today as I might have expected, but it looks as if we're getting a bit of a load tomorrow - a mixture of sn*w, ice pellets and freezing rain.

    O joy ...
  • Good work on booking your return to the Promised Land, Piglet. If you are planning to celebrate with a shipmeet in Edinburgh, say, early April, it might help my own travel plans.
  • PigletPiglet All Saints Host, Circus Host
Sounds like a plan, ST! I'm going to be up in Orkney around Easter weekend (Easter's the 12th of April) for a memorial service for D., and to scatter his ashes, but I'll be in Edinburgh before and after.
It's a very indoor sort of day here: we're getting a mixture of snow, ice pellets and freezing rain, which is Not Nice.

A day for not doing very much, I think.
  • If it wasn't for the fact that it's no-one's fault, this would be in TICTH. One of the major routes out of the city has been shut since yesterday due to structural worries about a bridge. There are 2 other bridges over the river, plus the motorway a few miles away, so very few usable routes south-bound. Tonight the city was in absolute gridlock.

It look over an hour to get home on a 20 minute public transport journey! Fortunately Mr Dragon worked from home today as he wasn't going to get to work in the car, so I was able to do an emergency call to get him to pick Dragonlet 1 up from after-school club as there was no way I was going to get back in time.

Both Dragonlets had eaten (No.2 got given a bag of popcorn to calm her when she got fractious stuck in traffic), so they've been packed off to bed and we are awaiting a pizza delivery (fish and veggie of course as it's Friday.)

Are you Presbyterian, I thought it was only to them that belief that the Holy Land started somewhere around Hadrians Wall was a requirement. I suppose that as it is not a requirement of other denominations it can still be a held view.

  • Some of us beleaguered Southrons are devoutly hoping that the Promised (or Holy) Land will one day, soon, be extended a loooooong way south of the Wall(s)...
ION, another gorgeous sunny early spring day down here, but woe! and thrice woe! a Horrible Storm with Ra*n and W*nd is forecast for tomorrow.

    Right at church time.
    :grimace:

It's my Sunday for preaching, so no doubt my words of Holy Wisdom will be much appreciated by the family of Mr & Mrs Pew, along with those of Mr & Mrs Wood, and the Walls...

I’m off to Heidelberg tomorrow to be with the little family. My son returns to work on Monday after nearly three month’s paternity leave and they are both feeling a bit wobbly about the idea.

    Omi to the rescue!

I stay in a nice little flat across the road so I can be of help but not in the way.

My flight is silly o’clock - so no wine tonight!

  • DooneDoone Shipmate
    Have a great time, @Boogie!
  • PigletPiglet All Saints Host, Circus Host
Safe travels, and happy grannying, Boogie!

We got quite a lot of Weather yesterday, and this morning I nearly wrecked myself shovelling some of it out of the way. It wasn't in the epic proportions that poor @Trudy got the other week, but it was more than enough nonetheless, and it was so bl**dy cold (-10° but feeling like -17) it took about half an hour for me to get the feeling back in my trotters ... :flushed:

Those of you in the path of Ciara, take care and stay safe!

Of course I'm presbyterian! I'm told it's a recurring genetic defect. And yes, the Promised Land is what you see in the distance when you stand with your back to Hadrian's Wall and look northwards. You can see it from all kinds of other places too if you close your eyes while inhaling a single malt.
  • I actually suggested to my Deacons that we cancel tomorrow's service, but they won't hear of it. "It probably won't be as bad as they're predicting", quoth one. I'm not convinced.
  • This is true. I know whereof I speak.

  • "It probably won't be as bad as they're predicting", .
It often isn't, but I wouldn't bank on it

We shall see. Hopefully, this side of The Slough Of Despond won't be too badly hit, but we've only put a few hymn/service books out ready...forecast is for sun/showers/strong winds.

The Severn Estuary is only said Slough at low tide. Of the other Slough is about 100 miles closer to you ...

And your weather forecast is actually a tiny bit worse than ours (but later).
  • Ha! I was using the term 'Slough of Despond' to describe Ukland as a whole...

The wind is picking up as I write... :scream:
  • The lamp post outside our bedroom is definitely swaying.
  • Wesley JWesley J Circus Host
This will confuse the proverbial drunk, ambling past, whose swaying may not be fully coordinated with aforementioned movement of said lamp post. - The mind boggles.
  • In the middle of internet-based stuff I became disconnected for a long moment - eeek. But connected again now. Phew.
  • Back from church - much to my surprise (O Me of Little Faith!) there wasn't a bad turn-out, considering the W*nd and Ra*n.

A couple of families with Small People didn't appear, but that's hardly surprising - the Small People would have been in danger of being blown clean away...

The church building is standing up to the recent extreme weather quite well, though a plastic dustbin was last seen, before Mass, dancing about the grounds. I'll try to restrain it later in the week.
  • BoogieBoogie Heaven Host
We’ve landed and the weather is fine and sunny here, the storm is due later - I must have flown ahead of it! A very fast yomp across the airport and station and I made the train with 30 seconds to spare!
    (Frankfurt - Mannheim - Heidelberg).

The take off was very bumpy indeed but the rest of the flight uneventful.

Mike and Tina have invited friends for a board game party this afternoon/evening while Omi entertains Anuka!

    No complaints from me.
  • Rather puzzled this morning by a blizzard of what looked like soapsuds blowing across the garden. On further investigation it turned out to be foam blown up from the sea.
    It's a a bit rough out there!
  • A plastic dustbin was last seen, before Mass, dancing about the grounds. I'll try to restrain it later in the week.
Are you trying to restrain its joyful, Spirit-filled dance of praise? We too had a reasonable congregation this morning, considering the weather. It is now very windy (and wet!) – we’re at the peak of it, I think.

Wind is picking up here, too, in Continental WesShire. Although it is just breezy now, we have a severe weather warning in place for Sunday night into Tuesday, with a Level 4 of 5 regarding wind or rather, storm - something which I have rarely seen in this 'ere climes. They're talking of wind speeds of 140 to 200 kmph (!) up on the hills, and slightly less in the plain. I am so not looking forward to this. It might result in more than one joyful bin, dancing. Eeeks!

Still sunny-ish though, but closing in.
