All is now well - the new Smart Hub arrived today, and I managed to connect it up successfully (two cables!).
My poor little Vodafone dongle can now have a well-earned rest, but he is available in case of need. BT tends to be a bit slow around here at the best of times...
ICTH whoever it was who gave me my third bout of Covid-19, just as my sense of smell was beginning to come back after the last lot.
As per instructions from the local surgery website, I'm treating it like a bad fluey cold; here's hoping the whisky supplies are sufficient.

If you’re losing your sense of taste don’t waste the best whisky on it.
Another day, another half hour wait at a bus stop.
If Lothian Buses could provide even a passing resemblance between their timetable and the actual arrival times of the 37 bus, it would be much appreciated.
I am not feeling up to church - ours has a tomb in the churchyard which appears to have been readied for the weekend. And it is a decent church with decent clergy. But I am trapped in thinking of others who will be togged up in whatever vestments are approproate today, holding forth about the forgiveness of sins, and may imagine theirs have been absolved while I am still dealing with their fallout from kicking the 100th lamb from the fold.
I sympathise. The faithful few who have turned up at Our Place are no doubt listening to the egregious Father F***wit (today's guest preacher) ranting on about how sinful certain Dead Horses are, and how those who follow such abominable practices will surely roast in Hell.
Hell, I daresay (if it exists) has a nice hot circle or two for such as Father F. He was instrumental in driving away at least one wandering lamb...
The manufactureres of a pill which has to be broken in half. The pill is about 3, possibly 3.5 mm long - if long is the right word to use! The pharmacist said I might have a bit of problem and since I can hardly perceive the liitle white dot on a dark background, she is right. I think anyone with superb vision would also have a problem!
Anyway, I shall have to take them back to have the shop do it and put the, presumably practically invisible, halves in a little bottle.
(The pill is Eplerenone 24 mg.)
That's an idea, though it's the difficulty in seeing the wretched pills that seems to be the trouble.
Pharmacists used to have a gadget for dividing pills - SusanDoris' place may well possess one, hence their kind and sensible offer to do the job for her.
Having just spent a few minutes listening to all the info about Eplerenone, I think that taking a whole tablet is not a good idea! And I think that nail clippers would be more likely to result in my cutting off the end of my finger!!
I must say, though, that reading all that stuff about the reasons for taking the pill, I am even more inclined to think that the Cardiology people are somewhat surprised that I am still alive!
Well done @SusanDoris for taking the time to check out the small print!
IMHO, your best option is to accept your pharmacist's offer to chop the dratted things in half for you. Would they also put them in your dosset/dosette box, if you have one?

They would, but that sort of container doesn't work for me. I need to follow my systemwhich works quite well, most of the time anyway! I mark each box with a black felt tip with letters or symbols which I can see (and check the braille if necessary) and pop out in turn into a little blue tray.
Told a friend about the struggles I am feeling having my hubby falling down a lot the last few weeks. Her answer was, " if you would just give it all to Jesus you will find you will not feel stressed." Bearing in mind I do give it all to Jesus often, my answer was, "Well when Jesus comes by to lift him off the floor I will be glad of the help." Her answer really upset me. Idiot.
Oh @Graven Image what a thoughtless friend. It reminds me of my brother telling me to ‘just chill’ when I was having a hard time with my mother and her dementia. That seems like the secular version of your friend’s advice. All it did just made me more stressed. Now if he’d done something practical…..

I really can't understand how people can have more than a decade of life experience and still think this sort of naive nonsense.
In my small market town there is always a short service on the market place on Good Friday morning. ( There used to be two processions from each end of the town, but those days are gone.)
The Vicar led the service which was well supported by both Anglicans and Methodists. Then there was a more reflective service at 11 in the Methodist church. Later at 7.30 pm a service entitled In the shadows and the silence, also in the Methodist church. As the Minister has covid, people stepped in to make sure these went ahead.
TICTH the Vicar who did not attend either service, nor did he lead anything else in his church.
After all, Friday is his day off.

Grounds for unfriending said friend: that kind of friendship
you need like a hole in the head👿
Perhaps more people are realising that, bearing in mind the medical knowledge available today, their faith in a resurrection needs adapting or something similar?

Hmm. Reminds of the late Bishop David Jenkins' much misquoted observation that the Resurrection was NOT just a conjuring trick with bones!
Most clergy I've ever known - even including the self-centred Father F***wit (whose god is his belly) - have at least made an effort to keep Holy Week properly, including Good Friday.
Many clergy, quite understandably, take a few days' well-earned leave after Easter...
Well, quite. David and I often took holidays after Easter; where I worked in Belfast we had the week after Easter as statutory holidays, and it was our usual time to come back to Blighty when we lived in Canada.
I always felt he really deserved a break after Holy Week and especially Easter Day - when we were in Newfoundland, he had to play for four services, the first one being at 6 in the morning. As he pointed out, he was the only one of the staff who had to be at all four: whichever of the clergy did the early service didn't have to do Evensong.
No wonder he was able to sleep on the plane crossing the Atlantic overnight!
Indeed. We sometimes forget about the musicians and singers, who also work very hard, especially if there aren't that many of them to start with.
At least our (volunteer and unpaid) organist wasn't required to play on Good Friday - the hymns were sung a capella - but she attended the service, nonetheless, which I thought was very much to her credit!
I was particularly annoyed about the Vicar’s absence as the Methodist minister was ill. Even though others took the services, he ought to have made his presence felt. He did attend the joint Maundy Thursday service and took a small part but left as soon as it was over, without having spoken to anyone before or after.( it is of course a service where one normally leaves in silence). He declined to have anything ecumenical in his building.
I don't know why I brought this up. Painful memories- I am glad I have left and found a different and happier place.

TICTH the symptoms of possible retinal detachment which just sent me scurrying down the road on the way to the emergency room. Thank God, my eye doc's cover called back in time and is willing to check me out tomorrow early at the office, saving me the big bucks and a lot of COVID exposure. Plus, of course, he thinks it's likely to be just me getting to be an old fart.
We get this kind of thing 9 Easters out of 10, which in my eyes is proof that the devil exists. My kid is now officially freaked out, as he hasn't recovered from me nearly dying back in 2013. Holy week is always fraught, and last year was I think the first year we didn't have some bullshit like this going on.

I’m pretty confident that people have had sufficient medical knowledge for a number of millennia to know that resurrection falls outside medical possibility.

Coal tar soap springs to mind ... 😈
Get well soon!
Obviously wiped his mind as well as his windows.

IANAD @SusanDoris - so DON'T TRY IT! Might be worth asking your GP, though.
But yes - make the damn things in the right size to start with! Hardly rocket science, one would think...

Good luck with the pills, anyway.

He did make a very strong bid to have this particular Friday off if memory serves.
Hmm. Reminds of the late Bishop David Jenkins' much misquoted observation that the Resurrection was NOT just a conjuring trick with bones!
(Or words to that effect).
So he did - most movingly (but unsuccessfully) according to the Gospel account...
Lucky us!
I suppose - if you believe in PSA...but that's a subject for a thread of its own, I guess.
GI, so sorry your "friend" was so thoughtless; with friends like that, you don't need enemies! Prayers ascending for you and Mr. Image.
