  • The old-style tories mostly disappeared a long while ago, I fear.

Those that might remain are still, however, besmirched by the shite foisted upon the whole country by BoJo and The Lettuce (amongst others). If they really cared, they'd have left the tories, and become either independents, or joined Labour or the LibDems.

Some say that one can better make changes when you are within an organisation rather than outside

    And have they?

This is an honest question as I don't know enough about politics in the UK to judge, but it's not enough to be well meaning, real change needs results.

A minority of people within the Conservative Party have succeeded in radically changing the underlying principles of the party, with the help of another party sharing those non-Conservative views taking a small number of their vote share. That was a process that took over a decade, but it happened. Why shouldn't those Conservatives who retain both their membership and traditional Conservative principles not be able to hold out hope that they could do the same in the opposite direction? Especially if the coming GE shows Labour picking up a significant share of traditional Conservative votes.

May I think criticised them both. May has always been a better politician when she hasn't actually had any power.

True, perhaps, but she still stayed in the party whilst the Mad King, followed by the Mad Queen, knackered up the country...

To be fair she did try and change things from the inside at times

Well, sooner would be better for Labour, which is why Sunak will likely exercise his right under Westminister to go with later.

Maybe not. If things continue to get worse then November could see a bigger defeat for the Tories than May. And a November campaign will be coming hot on the heels of another summer of boats crossing the Channel. Hell, if England do badly at the 2024 Euro Championships that could even have an effect.

I see no current examples of similar people. They may exist, I suppose.

Andy Street seems alright. To get elected mayor of the rather left-leaning West Midlands twice in a row he must be doing something right…

OK, but when she failed, and was overthrown by the Mad King Bozo, she still remained in the party. Mind you, as @Telford says, maybe she thought it was better to stay in the tent pissing out, rather than the reverse, which is a legitimate POV, I suppose.

More people on TV calling Rishi socialist. I actually see him more as a certain coyote who always has what he thinks are great ideas, but never gets the Road Runner. Do Acme have a political department?
