TICTH Greg Abbott, Governor of Texas

in Hell
Oh dear God no. Some people are just itching for a second US Civil War. Pray for us please.
And for the migrants. And for the souls of the dead who died because Texas would not let the Federal officials help them. God have mercy. I didn't know about that last one...

They seem to fall over each other to be the most unpleasant.
I think, however, that federalising the guard would give Biden an opportunity to show some strength, as well as do the right thing. What the reaction would be beyond whining on Fox is anyone's guess.
Probably alot of states-rights outrage in solid-red states, which wouldn't matter to Biden's prospects. The reaction in purple states would be the one to watch.
Does anyone ever suggest breaking up Texas into several smaller states? (Or California, for that matter?)
There is something in the resolution admitting Texas to the union about creating additional states, but what would be required to implement that is disputed. The impetus that previously might have driven such an effort (that Texas was safely "red" and could deliver additional Republican senators if divided) is no longer as reliable. There are, I understand, suggestions of dividing California, usually from rural parts of the state who don't feel represented by the big cities.
