    Congrats from here too @jedijudy!

For the last two years in the Western Cape, we've been struggling with severe power cuts and I haven't been able to take on large work projects or have much of an online presence. Winter was a nightmare but spring and summer has been easier as fewer people use power for basic heating. This week I've found an affordable large generator for sale that will hopefully keep the household running with electricity (hot water!) for about four hours a day. Like others here, I've managed with battery-run LED devices and numerous solar panels propped up to catch the sun all around the place; if it is a rainy day, I can't get any work done. Hoping to have the generator installed soon and keeping fingers crossed the cost of diesel to keep it going won't get more expensive.
  • Good luck and good outcomes to you
  • I'm pleased to hear of people's recent good news, and of the chance of more MaryLouise on the interwebs. Surely a blessing to us all!

Thanks to all who have been praying for me. I accepted a job with an organisation that works with people in my "lane", which is a modern way of saying that I believe my job will match my calling. Thanks be to God!

My wee Granddaughter had surgery this morning, and all went well! I will be going to the hospital soon to support my daughter and cuddle little C!
C is 79 days old today. She's been in the hospital for 20 days over two sessions. That's more than a quarter of her life! Hopefully she'll be going home in about 48 hours!

I'm grateful that this surgery exists, and that C's parents, M&M, have been persistent in getting the care that C has needed! And the folks at the hospital have been over and above kind and caring!!

Goodness @jedijudy , how stressful. I’m glad the surgery went well. x
  • Hugs to you all - do hug M&M from us!

Sending gentle hugs (and prayers) from over here too.

Thank you for your hugs and prayers! Little C was too uncomfortable to have anyone but her Mama to cuddle her. (It was good for her mama, too.)

Glad to hear the good news from @Simon Toad and @MaryLouise .

Glad also to hear that Little C's surgery went well and hope she is much more comfortable very soon.

Remembering our other Littles, particularly Little Beaky and his family.
  • My brother is still in the hospital but has been moved from the ICU to a regular room, and is doing well.
  • Mr Lamb is home from cataract surgery and is doing well, bar occasional remarks that suggest he is mildly high.
  • Much thanks for finally settling in at my new job, and for picking up another day at my dream place of employment.

Praise God I have just heard I have not one, but two meetings with differeent heart specialists at Papworth Hospital. 13 Feb and 15 March. Mrs RR Googled the guys and says they're top of the range.
Ever the optimist, she also opines that because I have two appointments rather than one, they sorta think they may - they just might - be able to do something about my (very) leaky artificial heart valves.

This is both exciting and scary! Nevertheless, Father, not my will, but yours be done.

  • Reappearing after a long absence to give thanks that I am still here after a cancer diagnosis took over 2022, and recovery from the after effects of the treatment a lot of 2023. Hope to be around a bit more, and am happy to hear the various bits of good news on the most recent page of this thread.
  • So nice to see you!!!!! And glad about the recovery.
  • It's always good to come here and read the thankfulness posts. I'm thankful that Cheery husband has agreed to come home early while we try Cheery son n new medication. That he has considered this and will organise to do so is something I'm really thankful for!

    Welcome back @WormInTheGrass !
  • Our son got word a few days ago that he’s been accepted in a master of fine arts in creative writing program. He’s waiting to hear from a few others he applied to. They all accept a very small number of students per year—numbers that can be counted on two hands—so he was really excited for the first answer he got to be a “Yes.” And his mom and I are over the moon for him.

  • oh how wonderful.
