I just wanted to put it out there for any interested Shippies. So many Shipmates who aren’t on board anymore, whom I wish I’d connected with before they left…

I'd suggest sending a PM to anyone you might want to connect to on social media, and they can then decide whether to pass those details on.
I've deleted the link above

I’m in the only one I’m aware of – but I don’t think a whole lot of shipmates are there. There’s more than one?
Yes. It’s a long story …
I would love to know and have links to the relevant groups. Unless they’re all just tagged with “ship of fools”…
I've always thought that the culture of pseudonymity on SoF to be curious. Presumably if someone wants to share their personal information on a website in the year of our lord 2024, they understand whatever potential "risks" may be involved.
And, of course, it's even more curious to be told that such a decision is unwise by a person who uses his real name as his username.
Well, he has a point, though.
I'm in this camp, too. As a long-standing nickname of the men of my family, my handle here on Ship is suggestive of my surname, but not more than that.
I don’t mean to malign the practice overall, just that I think it’s curious that when users provide personally identifying information the H&As quickly step in and redact it.
Perhaps, like forums, this cultural practice is a hangover from the old Internet. I’m not sure people my age, millennial, are as concerned with online anonymity, although I guess I’ve never explicitly asked anyone.
Some may say that’s not much of a difference, that if you have someone’s name you may well be able to figure out there contact info. My experience is maybe, but often not.
Yes, I can definitely see that.
There are two to my knowledge. You seem to be in both of them
Yay! I only knew the one which doesn’t seem to have a lot of Shipmate banter—now I’ve found where all the Shippies hang out! ❤️ In some cases people I’ve not encountered in years…
There are a whole bunch of groups which seem to be connected to one or more unrelated (presumably) music bands that are called ship of fools as well…
Well yes and no. SoF is recognisably a social medium, and many Shipmates regard it as that, even while they post in the Ship's discussion forums. But it is for that reason that the use of pseudonyms is important for posters who are shy, or fear the bullying rife on other platforms, to find a safe home on the Ship. Others have a professional need to retain anonymity.
I was among Shipmates/ex Shipmates whom @ChastMastr discovered/rediscovered in that, er, other place. Obviously we're not anonymous there. And his post there prompted me to see if my Ship login still worked. Wotcha know, it does.
Back at ya, @Sandemaniac 🍻

You are, as far as I can remember, the only shipmate who has posted details of their political candidacy here...
When vetted by the party I did, of course, tell them about my activity here. I don't consider anything I've posted in my time here to be contrary to the principles or policies of the party I am a member of (the same would be true of what I've posted on Facebook, I've never understood the attraction of X/Twitter or any other short form text/image/video form of social media ... I generally prefer the freedom of using lots of words).
I had imagined that as a menial, I would be spared such attention, but was warned that the menial were even more vulnerable. So therefore the shipname.
How kind 😊
Excellent
welcome back, good sir
How kind 😊
Just PM’d you on board Ship…
