Made a mushroom cups with smoked cheese (tasted better than the usual blue cheese and pecan nut sauce (walnuts all used) up, and with a potato last night. No port left in the house so substituted marsala.
Just about to take our dog, Maudie, for that last trip to the vet 🐕 🌈 😢
Reprieve! She has been palliative for a couple of years, but soldiered on with good pain control. We had said to ourselves that when she couldn't get up or down a short flight of steps to the garden, that would be the time for this last trip. When we got to JCU Vet, the room was ready, subdued lighting, a comfortable blanket. But the vet came in and asked the sort of questions a pall care doctor would ask a human patient and her/his family. "If we can give her a decent enough quality of life for the next few weeks, would you still go through with this right now?" And suggested a ketamine 💉. She said that if Maudie were her dog, she'd see how ketamine went before euthanising.
So that's what we plumped for, got fush n'chups on the way home which Maudie helped us to wolf. 🍷 is bad for 🐕 so she can't help us with that.
I hope you have some good extra time with Maudie, FD. I hope she enjoyed the fish n chips!! Good thing doggies don't like plonk, all the more for you!

Quiet days here, just doing the normal routine. Out of routine was feeling the earth tremor last week. I had felt one here about 20 years ago, but the kids had no recollection of ever experiencing one. I'd not seen any permanent damage recorded, how did others fare here?
Just settling down for the afternoon with a spot of streaming.
Spent the morning with the bank signing of the bridging loans we will need for a month until the money for our house comes in.
The instructions say to read the conditions carefully. 14 pages is hard to comprehend and remember in an hour. I hope our lawyer has found any tricky conditions.
Lunched in Murwillumbah at our best friends' house.
Then came an email from our lawyer requesting our Tax File Numbers. A checklist of things to provide seems like a good idea.
Best wishes for your sale progressing smoothly LKK. It can be a stressful time, even if the purchasers are keen to complete the process.
Lovely that you could catch up with good friends and enjoy lunch, what a nice way to round off the day.
Selling and buying is exhausting. We've been watching our neighbour with his home which has just sold after sitting doing nothing since late last year. I was beginning to get anxious for them and I'm relieved for them, that it's all done and dusted!!

ION a lot of lovely rain last night, Cheery husband was late coming home and rode right into the heaviest part of it, so arrived home soaked. Of course, because he's taken the car today, not a drop has fallen!!
Hope everyone out there is doing OK. We're enjoying quiet days with autumn beginning. I haven't seen trees changing colour yet, but we've had beautiful mornings and the days are just lovely.
The cockatoos have been busy in our trees and leaving us lots of mess!! Cheery son and I went out this morning and he collected up woodchips and I picked up all the snips from the Manchurian pear. Place looks a bit less disreputable!!
Enjoyed reading Rick Morton's assessment of the NACC report around Robodebt in his newsletter and on Crikey. Gosh I miss him in the Saturday paper.
Cheery son and husband are off to a birthday BBQ on Sunday, I will enjoy being home alone and will be putting my feet up!! Maybe even give myself a bit of a spa day. Anyone else have plans for the weekend?

Her children's school has been closed and they are currently safely at home with the dog waiting to see if the power goes off. She recently moved to a large (well, large for the Far North!) town so less isolated than where she previously lived.
I've been wondering about your family in the far north Mrs Beaky. Here in Otautahi/Christchurch we have had rain and wind, but absolutely nothing that compares with what they have endured. It has reminded me that I need to organise a more complete grab bag of emergency supplies and warm clothes ready for winter.
In the past I had a friend with a 4 wheel drive vehicle, whom I knew would help, but he died last year, so I need to re-think my plans.
I hope your daughter and family will be safe and not have to evacuate @MrsBeaky, a worrying time for you all.

We are expecting high winds today up to 100km/hr. SES man was on the radio this morning saying they are expecting that they might have a busy day ahead. Particularly as we had rain yesterday and the combination can be not so good with ageing trees.
My phone is telling me that it is currently 7 degrees celsius. I've been around and closed the windows and I suspect we will not be using the aircon today! I'm off to dig out some winter clothes for today. Rain has come at just the right time at my place as I've been busy transplanting things into the garden.
I'm looking forward to a slow day, more rain and indoor jobs. I've just found a pile of bill filing which I think will fill the bill today!

As an anti-depressant following Maudie 🐕's crossing of the 🌈 bridge, we're treating ourselves to a day out on Magnetic Island (or as emojis have it, 🧲ic 🏝️) tomorrow. Fine weather for snorkelling (sorry Kiwis and Sandgropers).
Just remembered that I can't snorkel nor even swim for a few weeks while my perforated ear drum heals. Ah well, more room in the backpack for a growler of local produce 😊 🍺

They really do @Sarasa. I feel fortunate in having a very supportive clinic a few bus stops down the road. When I lost a hearing aid they went into battle with my insurance company for me. Apparently the law here states that if the lost or destroyed item is a medical device then the owner can choose their preferred supplier. My insurance company was trying to fob me off with a chain company that has a bad repution.
A friend had taken her husband there, and while they were waiting to be seen two different people came in and loudly complained about bad service. She asked me about the audiologist I used and her husband is now happily signed up with them.
Glad to hear you've got a good audiologist @Huia and that you've managed to help someone else out with a good practitioner. I am sure they are grateful for your advice.

Heading to Hobart Holy Saturday. Spouse here this week but on call Easter Sunday & Monday so will go back with him and return Tuesday. My neighbours are kindly feeding the cats in my absence. Good Friday lunch with son, his partner & her Mum who is visiting from Toowoomba. The year is flying by.
Hope all your activities are progressing nicely @Sojourner. We are staying at home catching up on overdue garden jobs. Cheery daughter will be over later today for lazy Friday dinner, which means either left overs or takeaway.

Today is just beautiful, warm and sunny. I've been out for a walk and eaten lunch. I think a lazy afternoon of streaming or reading is in order and later this afternoon watering the potplants in the back yard. I did the front yard ones this morning.
Of course hot cross buns have been consumed and Cheery husband is planning to make some himself.
I used to make hot cross buns, but my family never eat any sort of hot cross buns.
A friend we visited bought hot cross buns for me, but they had been injected with an overly sweet cream cheese, that would have dropped out into the bottom of the toaster.
Cream cheese on a hot cross bun doesn't sound like something I would eat. I like the traditional spicy ones though. I haven't had ant this year because the supermarket I use insists on packaging them with 8 to a pack which seems a bit greedy for 1 person.

I've done a spot of gardening this morning, now have a batch of Anzac biscuits in the oven. My friend is coming for afternoon tea and as she is becoming vegan in her diet and this is the best solution for afternoon tea, that and some dip and crackers. I hope it all goes OK
Sadly, yes @Sojourner - I realised after I'd purchased all the stuff and I'd had 2 trips to the supermarket. I'm hoping they can forgive me that, or stick to the dip, which is hommus and I hope will be ok!!!

Tomorrow the remains of a tropical cyclone are forecast to hit parts of the North Island of Aotearoa/ NZ. The forecasts sound brutal, whereas here in the south strong winds are forecast, but nothing to the extent of the red flagged areas further north.
Today I'm off to the library to stock up on supplies.
