Happy Halloween Month!

For those who celebrate Halloween and the “spooky season” (this is a thread for people who like and enjoy it, not about disliking it, please), what are people doing this year? Anyone watching spooky movies, or decorating, eating themed snacks, or the like yet? (Of course, some of us do some of these things all the time…) Any plans for the more spiritual aspects of Dia de Los Muertos/All Saints’ Day/All Souls’ Day?

  • I have put our my wooden yard sign of a witch, with the word best witches to you. She is surrounded by fake pumpkins, and fall leaves. There is an autumn wreath by my front door. Alas no trick or treaters come to our area. We are off of a busy road with no sidewalks. The mobile park I live in will decorate the club house and hold a pot luck, The local Farmers Market has a grade school children's parade which I will attend. Dia de Los Muertos is celebrated in my home and at the church.

I’m going to a showing of “Nosferatu” in a small independent cinema - silent film with live piano accompaniment. I know the pianist (he used to conduct the choir I sing in) and he is very good at this - he accompanies Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton films every Christmas.
  • Bah humbug...

At least our local Tesco's Hallowe'en tat aisle is in the correct liturgical colours (orange and black).
  • We generally don’t decorate for Halloween until about two weeks prior to the day, when I’ll hang our wreath of black feathers at the front door, and pumpkins will be set on the porch. Closer to the day, I’ll fly the (reputed) flag of Blackbeard, and carve a jack-o-lantern out of a pineapple.

  • I'm afraid I'm rather repelled by the sight of pumpkins. They remind me of Trump.

I’ve been listening to some appropriate music, and I need to put up my Beistle decorations around the apartment. (Anyone else love Beistle?) I have my lit-up plastic Jack-o-lantern and pumpkin-headed figure on timers in the bedroom, which makes for cozy lighting to sleep by.

Beistle’s stuff goes back to the 1920s! And they use the same patterns now, so you can get decorations that are the same as their oldest stuff! :)

We don't do anything at Rogue Towers but quite a few of our neighbours do so walking up the road is quite a treat. On my way to work I go past a roadside shrine to someone who died a few years ago and every year it is Halloweened up which makes me smile.

Never mind Hallowe'en - All Hail The Great Pumpkin™! Make sure your own pumpkin patch is entirely sincere, and He may grace you with His presence.

I was in our local Costco recently and they had relatively little Halloween stuff around, except bins of candy. They had replaced it all with Christmas merchandise.

We don't decorate, although many of the local houses get rather elaborate. My one job is to acquire some sort of candy to distribute to the 30-or-so kids that come by. My favorites are candy canes and bubblegum.
  • Last year someone near here just put out a broom with a sign on it saying "For sale: Low mileage, one lady owner".

Oh I am doing this for sure.
  • Do be careful. You may be approached by dubious people trying to buy charms, philtres, nostrums etc. etc....
  • I really should start decorating my apartment now with those Beistle cutouts, Super7 Universal Monster action figures (some glow in the dark! Some also are fluorescent in vivid, 1970s kids’ Halloween costume colors!), and so on.

    Should? Hmm...

The Great Pumpkin™ will not be pleased. It all sounds most insincere.
