Being on coffee duty was actually quite fun and I think we're earning Brownie points with some of the older residents who have been here since Noah was a lad, for getting involved in village life. We kept saying to people they had to be nice to us as it was our first time doing it and we are newbies. We were wondering how long we can claim that for and everyone agreed it can be at least five years.
I have my book group this evening, it meets at a local pub and some of us (including me) go early and eat there together first. I plated up a meal for Mr Nen yesterday so today is No Cooking For Nen, yay! I also today, finally, felt up to facing my Zumba class tomorrow morning. I feared I'd left it too late to book but I nabbed the last place.
Mr Nen sets off early tomorrow morning on the first of his trips away and I'm feeling more positive about that than I was earlier in the week, even yesterday. I'm pleased with the books I've borrowed from the mobile library and there are a couple of nice things going on here at the weekend; I'm really grateful to finally be feeling well enough to look forward to them.
Another mix of Cloud and Sun-Shine in Arkland the Autumnal, with some Rain in the small hours of this morning.
I managed to get some sleep, but still felt it necessary to obey the command of my Feak and Weeble Frame to Do Nothing At All™. A quick Expotition to the Farmer Sea was however required to collect my drugs for the next two months, but even that washed me up.
I went (not for the first time) to the swimming pool near us which has recently been refurbished.
Very nice it is - but for some reason swimming in it seems to require more effort than in my other pool, also it seems longer although it's supposed to be the same size! All very strange.
Alas, I fear not! I've been swimming in the Other Pool for several years now. Although I have more stamina to keep going than I used to, I am no faster than when I started. Does me good though, I'm sure.
The orchestra was supposed to be starting up again tonight, but something's gone wrong with the contract for the rehearsal room so we can't start until next week. I'm not that upset. I'm still feeling quite wiped out from the cold, and also have done no practice. I did get as far as printing out the score this afternoon, and starting to look at it, but the score in question is Beethoven’s 9th () and requires rather more than one afternoon's looking at.
Speaking of His Majesty's passport office, everything about their service sucks like a Dyson. I am currently doing battle with them because of the stupid new rules for dual citizens, which they forgot to tell anyone about, and which apparently apply to Captain Pyjamas (I didn't even know he was a British citizen until the whole fiasco appeared in the press). Because it's a first passport, I have to get his identity confirmed. The headmistress said she'd do it, so I had the form sent over to her. She totally forgot for a while, until husband en rouge reminded her, then misread a question and got the form rejected (To be fair, English is not her first language.) Can you get anyone from the passport office on anything as civilised as the phone? Of course not. I did manage (eventually) to get an agent on a webchat, and I think the form's been reset. I can't help feeling that this is all far more complicated than it needs to be. I don't remember it being anything like this complicated to get a first French passport.
Oh dear, I hope the passport gets sorted soon.

Choir Chair has failed to reply to two very precise questions I asked her re hall bookings.
a)start time for rehearsal on concert day
b) a new date she announced for an extra rehearsal with venue, but I don’t know if the hall has been booked.
She has replied but not answered my questions. Grr.
The headmistress has now successfully submitted the form. And now they tell me, in the list of documents, that I have to send a copy of her passport. Cause asking for that's not going to be embarrassing at all...

I sympathize. We just got our kids their first UK passports (for the same reason), but were able to get a friend in the UK to do the verification, which was all online and relatively painless.
I hate having to ask things like that @la vie en rouge. I hope she doesn't mind having to submit her passport - what a palaver.
I hope the person on the bridge was talked onto the right side of the bridge and you are now home @Sipech. Having been on a train that juddered to a halt when it hit someone on the line a few months ago the delay to the people on the train is so minor to whatever the person in distress is experiencing.

We had a nice evening, mocktail and tea at local cafe, stroll across the road to one of my favourite shops that was having a members discount evening afterwards. I bought a frock and my husband got some more socks with sheep on them. He is very against socks for me that have stereotypical items for men on them. So no socks with beer, football, etc. Animals are OK and he liked the ones I found in Germany with Moka pots on them. He then headed home and I had a very useful and quite relaxed meeting at the Town Hall where things were actually progressed.
Won't be home for a few hours yet. The entire southwest mainline is closed beyond Woking. So am heading back to London and will have to go from Paddington to Reading before the onward train to Basingstoke.
As tomorrow is my last day at work and I have to hand my laptop back, I don't get the option to work from home.
The incident has been cleared (precise details unknown) and I have arrived home. Net journey of 50 miles took 5 hours. According to DuckDuckGo, that's slightly less time than a flight from Heathrow to Cairo.

The little wooden Step/Stool has been assembled for me by kind Neighbour M, who did it much more quickly and deftly than I could have done! This means that I can now sit safely on deck whilst Paint Ing, maybe over the weekend if there is no Rain...
French group was at my house today. We always serve nice refreshments though nobody eats much ( mid- afternoon) so now I have Left Overs. I have eaten the same food three times now today. ( quiche, cheeses, crusty bread, fruit loaf, lemony biscuits) Anyone help me out?
Youngest grandson has today gone to university, the same one I went to. He called in here this morning to pick up a desk lamp for his room. I think he will be just fine.

Another quiet day: J's back from his holiday, but not producing much work yet. Monday is a holiday here, so I'm looking forward to a nice lie-in. Tuesday might be a bit more frantic though.
So sorry @Sandemaniac. I really hope something turns up soon. @sipech, I hope todays commute was smoother and your next job involves an easier commute. I used to commute across South London and had quite a few dire journeys, but nothing I think quite like the one you had yesterday.

I went for a walk round town this morning which was very pleasant, followed by a meeting on a heritage barge museum on our river. I found the whole thing very interesting, and have agreed to go to the annual general meeting on Tuesday to chat some more. I know a fair bit about canals, but not much about the barges that came up from the Humber Estuary to our town.
This afternoon I had a Zoom chat with a friend and stated crocheting some bootees for my friend's grandchild to be. I need to get them finished by Monday as we're going out then and it'll be be ideal time to give them to her.
Tonight we watched the first in the new series of Slow Horses, excellent as always.

A friend of ours is passing through Paris, so we met him for lunch. I had calves' liver, which is one of my favourite things.

I'm gutted. It literally had everything I wanted in a job. It would have given me a new career to take me up to retirement (hopefully).
