Well if we're talking about animals that visit us, not bats, but I am here at my summer cottage, and have set up my hummingbird feeder, and am getting lots of the little darlings.
Alas, where we are, we’re forbidden by local ordinances from hanging hummingbird feeders, or any other bird feeders. They attract hummingbirds and other birds, but they also attract bears, and bears are A Problem here.
Minnie went to the groomer today to have most of her fur chopped off. Judging by the smell coming from her paws last night, not before time. As usual we played Good Cop/Bad Cop: I took her there (and got the Look of Betrayal) and my husband collected her.
She looks beautiful now, but the groomer sprayed her with some horrible pongy perfume, so she still smells bad... you can't win.
Our calico, Toffee, has recently developed a change in the appearance of her left eye. My daughter took her to a vet, and they were perplexed. So, they told her to take Toffee to the cat eye doctor. There's an eye doctor for cats??
The vet gave my daughter eye drops for the kitty, and the eye appointment is tomorrow. I hope we find out something that can help.
ToffToff's scan came back clear!! Where is that spinning smiley when we need it?
We're still waiting for the bloodwork to come back, but are so very hopeful that she'll live a long and happy life after her surgery!
@NicoleMR, you are so right! Animals do adapt very well when they are blind! We hope this will only involve one eye, as the other one seems perfectly normal.
We have a very skittish calico who is nervous about uninvited contact even for necessary hygienic reasons. Surprisingly we managed to get to her without drama this evening when she was effectively cornered on her favourite basement window ledge. It’s a process…
My 17 year old cat, Domino (see my avatar) who is usually placid and happy, is suddenly frightened and sad, and hiding in the airing cupboard. I think she has had an encounter with a cat belonging to a new neighbour who has moved in. The new cat is young and friendly, but has been coming into Domino’s (my) garden. I may let her stay in the usually forbidden airing cupboard tonight, but I need to find a better way of reassuring her.
Thank you all for your kind thoughts! Toffee was even inviting Drax to play with her today. A good sign that she might not be in a lot of pain, even though cats are very good at hiding when they don't feel their best.
I hope all our furry friends will not be stressed and unhappy. They deserve peace and relaxing since they give us that same gift. (Most of the time!)
A little addendum: the previous four cats that my daughter and son-in-law adopted all died from cancer. One of those cats was diabetic and the kids kept him alive and happy to the astonishment of the vets who took care of his medical needs. We were all shocked that cancer was what killed him.
So, we were particularly afraid when we found out ToffToff's diagnosis. This is the first time that there has been a good chance of a cure.
Toffee is home from her surgery! Everything went well, and the vets and staff were all saying what a sweet kitty she is. She never tried to scratch or bite anyone.
We should have the pathology results in 2-3 weeks.

We are becoming more optimistic that the surgery will completely eliminate the cancer and she can be our happy girl with no more medical problems!
