Bizarrely, just as Wales has entered drought status, a couple of streets a few miles away were flooded with contaminated water and mud yesterday following an explosion at a local quarry - it seems the blast opened some flooded underground caves but I don’t think they’re quite sure yet exactly what has happened.
There’s a few wild fires in South Wales and the local Fire and Rescue Service reckons that half of them are accidentally or deliberately caused by human activity.
There was also an incident a few miles from us on an industrial estate that caused explosions (probably gas bottles) so some roads have been closed. I’m not sure that is due to the weather, but with persistent heat and minimal rain, who knows.
Just wondering how many people have a 'prepper' bag or some such. I'm in London so have never had to worry about natural disasters like earthquakes, but with everything so dry I'm beginning to think about planning for a short notice evacuation. I have a dog and a cat so it's really more about how to manage them (particularly the cat - he's indoor only) in the case of an emergency.

I don't have a bag, but I have a list. In my case it's the risk of flooding rather than fire, so we'd have some time to prep. I have a "to-do" list so that if necessary I wouldn't have to think, I'd just have to work my way down the list.
We have a prestigious model aircraft event in a few weeks. I'm running the rocketry competitions. Unless we have a good deal of rain soon these is likely to be cancelled.
I small thing I know, but we retro-modellers look forward to these things!
Lots of heritage railways are relying mainly on diesel traction at the moment, owing to the fire risk - a small outbreak on the lineside might easily spread to adjacent fields and woods before it could be contained...
The last few days we have been under a fire weather warning. High winds, low humidity and high temperatures. Pullman is surrounded by wheat fields and there have been times when they have burned. Fortunately, nothing has happened in the immediate vicinity.
However, it appears northern Spokane is on fire. There are level three evacuations to the northern part of the city. We did not realize it was so bad because we had the TV off. Just turned on to catch up on the regional news.
Tomorrow will be much cooler. Hopefully, that will help calm the fires.
They have announced some of the National Guard troops have been activated to fight the fires all through the state. Don't know how many have been assigned to Spokane area.
