Yesterday I had my breakfast and then my first soup of the season. It was home grown butternut squash and runner beans mixed with various spices, a tin of tomatoes and some butter beans. It also included a rather spicier than expected home-grown chilli and our very pungent home grown garlic. . Tea was vegan hoisin 'duck' wraps.
Today will include part two of the soup and then, because it's Friday, Pasta and pesto with more home grown beans and featuring our home grown basil. Wine will also feature.
Yesterday I had cauliflower and broccoli cheese, using up the cheese sauce I made on Tuesday.
Today, my usual breakfast and usual sandwich with salad lunch. Tonight would normally be fish, but my son arrived with a tub of his home-made leftover lamb hotpot, which he took out of the freezer two days ago, so I daren’t keep it another day.
Lunch out with a friend at a gluten-free bakery/cafe. Enjoyed the fried egg and black pudding, but the gf brioche bun did nothing for me. They had loaves for sale - dark and dense and looking uncommonly like Dwarf bread.
Some toast with peanut butter, then to the quirky brewery/tap room for a couple followed by some absolutely epic cheese. Oh my gosh, Dorset Blue Vinney is so, so good. Imagine a smooth Stilton that tastes just as you want it too…
I think there’s Chili con Carne for later.
The Heritage Day feast was a little chaotic (about 120 people pitched up all in all) but a great multiracial, multigenerational gathering with far too much food, singing and dancing, laughter, the kind of hospitality I wish we all experienced more often.
For lunch today I made a simple bowl of miso soup, rice and vegetables oomphed up with a tablespoon of Ajinomoto hondashi that tasted like kipper umami, an instant dashi of cured bonito flakes plus wicked MSG granules. I now smell like an old smokehouse with blood pressure spiking off the charts.
Lunch: the remains of the macaroni cheese (told you it was going to make a reappearance) and (bought) floating island
Dinner: husband en rouge came home from the market with vive, which apparently is weever fish in English. He served it with quince and fennel and a lemon sauce. Cheese and plums after. Served with wine (a white Cassis) because the weekend.
A pistachio biscuit went with the coffee and we are now sipping limoncello.
Lunch: We were intending to go out for lunch today, but plans for the w/e include lunch out tomorrow and buffet lunch here on Sunday, both for family. As I over-cater this usually results in tasty Leftovers.
So we stayed in and finished off the vegetable cottage pie from yesterday, as there would not be chance to finish it over the weekend, and I need its space in the fridge. Followed by a chocolate trifle.
Dinner: scrambled eggs and peperonata, plus a slice of toast
Breakfast, Greek Yogurt and blueberries, Coffee. Lunch pasta with assorted vegetables, sun dried tomatoes and a sprinkle of goat cheese. water. Snack rice cracker with almond butter. Dinner a tuna and tomato sandwich with a honey crisp apple. water.
Lunch was supposed to be at a favourite coffee shop of mine. However we forgot to book a table and it was either lurk and dive in when someone left or find somewhere else. Husband wasn't happy that is was crowded and noisy (and that was outside).
So a quick dash to the local petrol station, grabbed a couple of premade sandwiches, some cold drinks and a piece of dessert slice each and headed down to the local lake. We found a couple of tables in the shade (and quiet) and enjoyed an impromptu picnic.
Cheery daughter will be visiting later, we are not sure whether she is staying for dinner (or not), so we haven't yet made plans for dinner. Saturday night is usually get your own, so we might all be in the kitchen creating our own meals, or we might have an order in situation. We'll have to wait and see what people feel like doing!
It's been a rather silly day re: timing of eating.
After choir practice, a few of us repaired to a cafe, where I had cappuccino and a rather large piece of fruity tea-bread with butter.
This left me not hungry enough for my usual weekend brunch, but by about 3 o'clock I was a bit peckish, so I had a piece of toast with half a bashed-up avocado and a few shreds of smoked salmon, which was rather lovely.
Now having a cup of tea and a chocolate biscuit, and will soon put a steak in to marinate for supper.
It'll be accompanied by boiled potatoes, mushrooms and greens. And WINE, obviously. 🍷
Lunch was a bit of a fridge clear. There were kidney beans left over from the chilli- mashed those up with breadcrumbs, hot sauce and grated cheese. Made little burgers and fried them. OK. Ish.
Dinner to be a roast of pork, as I have a bowlful of apples from the garden.
Lunch: vegetable soup and bought desserts (a sort of cappuccino mousse for me)
Dinner was planned in the expectation of Captain P coming back from the swimming pool ravenously hungry: SAUSAGES and CHIPS with a bit of salad for the sake of our conscience. Cheese and fruit after (pears or grapes are available). A Tavel rosé for the adults.
Unusual day.
Usual breakfast to start, then toast and marmite / marmalade as I didn’t know when where or what I would eat next.
I went to a wedding service, not reception, then ate out with a friend: meat balls followed by sorbet, with wine at about 3 pm.
I’m not sure when I will feel hungry again. Maybe bread and cheese later?
Saturday breakfast: Coffee, soy bacon, egg with fresh salsa, blueberries, whole grain English muffin with a mix of cream cheese and goat cheese. Lunch: Turkey burger on a bun with lettuce, tomato, pickled onions, a side of cabbage slaw and water. Dinner tonight will be udon noodles and mixed vegetables. Snack some fresh pineapple.
Breakfast: porridge - first one of the autumn
Lunch: half a tin of vegetable soup & an apple
Dinner: A bowl of pasta, with a medley of vegetables and some butter beans.
It looks like our repertoire will alter: Mrs Sioni already has the monitor so we eat much the same, but cut down on the nasty carbs.
Chili con Carne #2 and we shall try brown rice😳
Fruit for pudding, some more birthday cheese and a glass of something I was given for my birthday.
Latte for breakfast.
Lunch at the Green Man: half chicken, chips and aioli. It was rather a small half chicken but cooked well and the skinny chips were also good. Accompanied by a pint of IPA or two.
Tea: we treated ourselves to a kilo of cooked signal crayfish, which Mr Heavenly served with butterbean salad and his homemade aioli. That’s half hour of my life I won’t get back, small crayfish are a lot of effort for little reward. Mr Heavenly’s salad and aioli were very good though. The crayfish remains will be used to make bisque.
Usual breakfast.
Lunch: Out with Younger Son, Dil two small grandsons & Mr RoS at a cafe which is part of the attractions at a farm visitor centre.
They do particularly tasty pasties and I had a Beef & Stilton one, with salad, preceded by crisps from various shared packs. Didn't get round to a pudding as the boys were eager to go and see the goats & pigs.
Got home absolutely shattered, as the day had been far more walking than I have done for some time. Couldn't move for the rest of the evening, and preparing a meal was beyond me. Eventually had a slice of wheat & rye bread with Bovril (my comfort food, as well as part of my regular breakfast). No idea what mr RoS had.
Brekkie - bacon cobs.
Dinner- cheese salad pita
Tea - pizza (chorizo and salami), coleslaw and mixed salad with balsamic dressing. Younger son does the pizza dough (training as a baker) and I do the actual pizzas. Naples style with blobs of mozzarella rather than grated something masquerading as mozzarella.
Beer - home brew Golden Ale*.
*so the kit claims but it looks and tastes more like a best bitter to me.
Usual breakfast, then the remains of a not very-sour sourdough loaf with shop bought baba ganoush and salad for lunch. Tea was roast veg and cous cous. No wine tonight but ginger cordial with sparkling water instead.
Lunch: Younger son & family with us for lunch, so we had the substantial, but easy buffet that has become a habit over the years - started in an attempt to make sure that everybody (especially the littlest ones) got something they would eat.
Two types of bread; smoked salmon; serrano ham; hard boiled eggs; a selection of cheeses;
cooked baby potatoes; tomatoes & cucumber (from the garden), salad leaves; condiments (many & varied).
Pudding was a very good "home-made" apple & blackberry pie, bought from the farm shop yesterday, with cream or genuinely home-made custard. Banana custard was an option for those not wanting pie, but was not required.
There are plenty of leftovers, which will no doubt get a mention here as the week progresses.
Evening snack: Both types of bread & two different cheeses.
Yesterday we had a rather good day food wise. Usual breakfast with left over roast veg and cous cous for lunch. Tea was using up stuff before we head off on holiday so wraps with salad, baba ganoush, grilled artichokes and ‘lamb’ shawarma from the freezer. It was all rather nice.
Joe’s Caff last night; fried eggs, bacon, mushrooms, baked beans, tomatoes and a slice of fried bread (a little luxury). Mrs Sioni is an epic egg chef and could probably get a specialist position in this.
Friends held a small birthday tea for me after our yoga session, we had plunger coffee with an orange chiffon cake, melktert, just-baked scones with cheese and apricot jam. Came back and lay down for an hour or two. I've been overdoing food adventures recently...
Quick peanut butter sandwich before we went out. A bit of shopping and things then birthday cheese continued for lunch.
Supper will be late, mostly garlicky broccoli.
Lunch: ham & cheese toastie, tomato & roasted red pepper soup* from a local café
Supper: fishcakes (this time salmon Florentine - a new venture for me), green veggies, wine, cheese and crackers
Just now: grapes
* A bit indulgent, I know, but for some reason I couldn't get warm this morning - may have been a side effect of the flu jag I got yesterday - and needed something to warm me up!
Dinner: beetroot biryani. The recipe wasn't entirely successful and I'm not sure I'd make it again. Chocolate fondant with a spoon of marmalade for dessert.
Breakfast - a slight variation on the usual, in that I added a spoonful of double cream to the porridge (normally made with 2/3 skimmed milk & 1/3 water), and my Bovril on wholemeal toast was replaced with toasted walnut bread and real butter. (Rich dairy produce being leftovers from feeding visitors yesterday).
Lunch: Scrambled eggs & leftover smoked salmon with a slice of buttered toast, followed by an Egremont Russet apple.
Dinner: All leftover from yesterday - salad greens, cherry tomatoes, cucumber, red pepper, potato salad, Serrano ham, french bread & butter. Followed a little later by a small slice of cold blackberry & apple pie and double cream.
Lunch was the remaining gammon steak with fries cooked in the airfryer, and a fried egg. Had to be quick and easy and not involve water, sink etc as the plumber arrived unexpectedly to service the boiler.
Later, a quick beef sandwich with salad bits.
After choir ( always hungry) slice of toasted fruit loaf, chunk of Red Leicester, yogurt, a pear.
Lunch: a few small slices of slightly stale baguette with butter and the remnants of serrano ham from Sunday. Plus cherry tomatoes & slices of cucumber.
Dinner: Wholemeal penne in a yoghurt/creme fraiche/garlicy sauce with broccoli florets, and (leftover) smoked salmon stirred through it.
Finished off Sunday's apple & blackberry pie with a dollop of thick cream.
Pretty successful dinner party - my first this year. Roasted tomato soup, Chicken Normandy with apples from the garden, apricot and banana in orange juice with yogurt cream. Cheeses. Port. Whiskies - Scotch, Irish and Icelandic.
Breakfast, Eggs with peppers and onions. Toast with cream cheese, coffee
Lunch, Corn bread, sardines, cucumbers and onions.Water
Dinner, . Pasta with fresh pesto and vegggies. Water
Snack, Corn on the cob with lime juice and herbs
Usual breakfast and lunch
This evening I had lambs liver with onions and bacon. I cooked double so there is a portion in the freezer, minus bacon, as I don’t think it freezes well when cooked.
Lunch: the last of the smoked salmon from Sunday on a few slices of slightly stale baguette spread with horseradish sauce, plus cherry tomatoes & cucumber.
Dinner: cold baby potatoes, and a hard-boiled egg, both quartered, a couple of rashers of crispy bacon and chives all piled onto a plate of salad leaves and drizzled with mayonnaise with extra dijon mustard beaten in.
Comments
I am allergic to melon and all the breakfast fruit had melon in it or on it. So I asked for fruit 'ohne melone' and they brought a fabulous platter.

Breakfast: buttery, OJ
Lunch: chicken and pesto sandwich; Twix bar
Supper: F&C; wine
Now: grapes
To quote Bridget Jones - calories: about half a million.

I don’t know what they are like to eat, but Mrs Sioni trod on one many years ago (in Cyprus) and it wasn’t nice at all.
Lunch was supposed to be at a favourite coffee shop of mine. However we forgot to book a table and it was either lurk and dive in when someone left or find somewhere else. Husband wasn't happy that is was crowded and noisy (and that was outside).

It was quite tasty. And yes, they are vicious creatures who deserve to get eaten.
