Donald ******* Trump

in Hell
Just a thread on which to vent.
The Madison Square Garden stuff seems like a new low.

And for us who may have to endure years of ghastliness from Trump and his benighted acolytes.
No, let the b*st*rd rot in Hell.
I can't figure out whether they support Trump because they think democrats are demonic baby killers or whether they've convinced themselves democrats are demonic baby killers to justify their intention to vote for Trump.
There is a scary cohort who like those.
Jesus, if you really are coming back, now would be a good moment...
Of course, it's the hope that kills you. Please, to Americans on this board, don't throw in the towel.
Americans - Make America SANE Again!
(NB - that slogan comes from a political cartoon I saw on YouTube)
Yes, point taken. As I said, the slogan was lifted from a political cartoon I saw, and I'm afraid you're probably right about the Trumpians.
I do sincerely hope that Kamala Harris wins, BTW. We probably don't know much about her on this side of the Pond, but at least she appears to be a normal, decent, human being, however much one might disagree with her politics (not that I can see all that much to disagree with).
🙏
I suppose we ought to be thankful that Trump isn't the Anti-Christ, who is supposed to be a universally attractive and universally loved person...
At least, he is in the films (like Left Behind and the others of that genre...)
That is terrific
Stealing this. Thanks!
It has a lot to do with gender and it would regardless of who was running against Trump. I am fascinated and terrified to wonder what an American Marine Le Pen would be like. It hasn’t quite worked for Sarah Palin, Kristi Noem, or even Marjorie Taylor Greene (she is in congress and the right wing ecosystem, but would she have a chance of running for president?)
That didn't end well...but the consequences of Trump 2 are likely to be far worse, not only for the US, but for the rest of the world.
Please gods Ms Harris wins, but she (and her government) will still have to deal with Trump & Company. As @Gwai said earlier, they won't just go away...
Yesterday. a commentator mentioned one reason why Trump is getting strong support from white evangelical Christian communities is because the United States is going through an existential crisis. By 2040--15 years from now--the voting population will no longer be white majority. His people are afraid what this new world is going to be like. Trump builds on that fear.
You could see it in the rhetoric that was coming out of MSG, A certain island in the Atlantic is a floating garbage dump. A certain woman is the antichrist. Did someone call her a witch? Then Trump got on stage. We are an occupied country. The enemy within. Mass deportation, and he was just getting warmed up--though I have to say he is the most boring political speaker I have ever heard,
@Ruth is right, even if he is not elected, his crowd will not be going away. But I would hope it is the beginning of the end. There will be a relatively short period of upheaval in some areas, but we have been moving from a predominantly White, Anglo/Saxon, Protestant (WASP) society for some time. There is a new world coming. Do we face it bravely or fearfully? That is the choice we are all facing.
We can pray for them, absolutely, and I do. But this is a place to vent, rather than cluttering up other threads. Remember, this is not the real Hell, and posting here doesn't mean we're wishing damnation on anyone.

There is a large Puerto Rican block in Pennsylvania which just may be enough to decide where its electoral votes may go. I think Harris is leading in Pennsylvania but just by a thread.
Under most circumstances, it is just too close to the election to have this come up for normal candidates. We will see what happens.
Words to live by!
But you mean @Gwai in this case.
I figured that was probably an error, but then it is something you may well have said here too
They won't just go away. Trump hasn't invented anything new. He's tapped into bigotry, amplified hate, promoted fascism -- it was all already present.
I was. It was interesting that they did not ask who I would vote for president this time, but who I voted for the last time. Next they asked who I planned to vote for Senator this time.
I don’t think he will win. It may be close, but I think many US citizens have long memories. The chaos he wrought last time will not be forgotten. Not only the massive things but things like the way he played with the country’s finances. Holding back on allowing the debt tho extend causing havoc with people’s jobs and the country’s position in the financial world.
It's easy to be self-righteous about this from elsewhere. It is wholesome for me to remind myself that I am a national of a country that voted for Brexit in 2016 and to give power to a party led by Johnson in 2019 – though admittedly the alternative the Labour Party was offering then was pretty dire also -. Nevertheless, as with China and Russia, the power the United States has in the world means that who runs it is not just a domestic matter. It is something that is seriously consequential to everyone else.
Some shipmates may disagree, but IMHO, it is unusual for there to be a clear moral or ethical reason why one should vote for or against somebody. There is no particular moral or ethical reason why a person should vote for Kamala Harris. She is just a candidate. However, this strikes me as a crystal clear example of a situation in which it is not just incomprehensible, but both wicked and sinful to vote for Mr Trump.
Kamala Harris has made some very strange campaign decisions - for a start, why hasn't she made more of her time in the Senate? And then it seems that every time she does get her nose in front Joe Biden comes out with a fresh lunacy that trips her up from behind. Am I the only person who harbours a feeling that Joe and Jill may not be entirely supportive of a Harris win ...
Of course, if I'm wrong the outlook is no better, just different. I fear the reaction of the Trumpistas to their boy losing will make 6th January look like a tea party.
You speak as one who knows nothing at all about US Elections since 2016, VP Harris, or political morality. You've achieved a trifecta. I congratulate you.
In general, Americans have a low opinion of their elected officials. Congressional Approval fluctuated between a low of 13% and a fleeting high of 31% during Harris' time in the Senate. She's also Vice President, which is a position much closer to the Presidency, and one that makes her the President of the Senate. With those two larger feathers in her cap, her record as a Jr. Senator is less significant, even if it is viewed successfully by Californians.
Yes. Biden ended his candidacy so Harris could run. Some of you seem to need a Hallmark Movie version of American party politics, as if that's ever existed, or it did it'd present a some kind of purer, superior outcome, as if that could matter in any meaningful way. Jesus.
What a stupid take. The outlook is exponentially better. The aftermath of the election may be tenuous at first, but the ship will right. You don't look insightful by taking an under-informed, both-are-bad-choices take. Educate yourself for Christ's sake.
I think though that it is just possible that just as I haven't understood what you're trying to say, both you and @Ruth may not have understood what I was trying to say.
I accept that as a foreigner, I know very little about US elections or politics. Like @Bishops Finger, @Hugal and the Marsh Family, with all of whom, I agree, I'm looking at the parlous situation you appear to be in from the other side of the Atlantic.
Then just shut the fuck up.
I am guilty of commenting about British, Canadian, and Australian politics on the ship from a position of relative ignorance. I hope no one tells me to STFU! I’m not endorsing anything anyone has said on this thread - just saying that this American at least is understanding of the concern and perplexity that outsiders might be feeling right now.
I don't know what your take is on this forthcoming election, but I can assure you that much of world opinion (i.e. outside the United States) largely agrees with what the Marsh Family have expressed. Perhaps we have all been misunderstanding it but 'the rest of us' are desperately worried about and deeply sympathetic to the situation you all face.
I don't know what your take is on this forthcoming election, but I can assure you that much of world opinion (i.e. outside the United States) agrees with what the Marsh Family have expressed in music. Perhaps we have all been misunderstanding it but 'the rest of us' are desperately worried about and deeply sympathetic to the situation you all face. It is quite upsetting to be told off for saying this with quite your blunt language.
I only meant "trifecta" insofar as you'd arrived at three dubious points, as judged by me.
This is a Hell thread, mostly about the unprecedented, vile repugnancy represented in the hollowed-out, fetid person of Don*ld F. Tr*mp. As such, considering how you're leaving yourself wide open for counter fire, even tangentially, you should brace for impacts.
No one's going to tell you to STFU in Purgatory. And I doubt very much you're making sweeping and stupid statements along the lines of there being no moral or ethical reason to vote for Harris.
I frankly don't care if it upsets you. I'm fed up to the back teeth with people from other places who don't know a goddamn thing about the US holding forth about the situation here. That some non-US shipmates are able to take quite well-informed positions about the US shows that it can be done.
I didn't watch the video.
