To dangerous here now for the mighty US Air Force?
The best I've seen to explain the withdrawal is a photo of a white rabbit.

Sorry. I'm not clear what the white rabbit symbolizes there. I guess it could plausibly be logic and proportion fallen sloppy dead, but I'm thinking more probably something akin to the white flag of surrender?

Think Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

    Ahh, the killer rabbit. Thanks.

A sign of how things have changed. There was a time when a Monty Python allusion would not need explaining.

The passage of nearly 60 years, I guess.

I was thinking more of Ship time. Even 10 years ago a Monty Python allusion would be recognised by the vast majority of people here. Or, maybe it was just that those who didn't recognise it filed the reference under "strange stuff I don't understand. Like 'thurifer'".

I think it’s more that “white rabbit” has lots of cultural references. I can pretty much recite the dialogue of Monty Python and the Holy Grail, and I didn’t make the association. My mind went to Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, to Jefferson Airplane, and to a magician pulling a rabbit out of a hat.

Now, if you’d said “a photo of a foul, cruel, and bad-tempered rodent” or “a photo of a harmless little bunny,” . . . .

  • I’m from the UK and assumed Alice in Wonderland too.

I think I've always heard that scene referred to as "the killer rabbit". Plus, like you, "white rabbit" puts me in mind of Wonderland or Jefferson Airplane.

I'm pretty sure I get most of the Python allusions here. Made one myself a coupla weeks back.

"The Orange Plague" - a satirical 8.5-foot-tall, 23-karat gold-plated statue of a naked donald trump was unveiled at the European Parliament in Strasbourg, France, as an artistic protest against his policies.

Oh dear - what will trump do in retaliation?
  • I’m from the UK and assumed Alice in Wonderland too.

Despite living with @Sandemaniac and being a Python fan, my first thought was Alice too (and falling down rabbitholes or through looking glasses).

I'd love to know the proportion assigned to a certain anatomical part. Or maybe I wouldn't after all. :flushed:
  • On the flip side he's been saying he could have done 'very bad things' to Hilary Clinton, Joe Biden and 'Barack Hussein Obama'; https://bsky.app/profile/atrupar.com/post/3mxciowktpy2d

Also artistically unoriginal. Some American artist did a similar piece early in Trump 45, emphasizing his supposedly small manhood.

Noted. Didn't pick that up the first time I clicked.

That's actually better than the other one, because at least it makes a political statement(Trump rides on the back of the downtrodden), rather than just a dick joke.

    Yes, I think you're right.

As to retaliation by the mad emperor, I note that the artist is a Dane. Greenland had better be prepared for a US invasion, recent deal notwithstanding.

After a nice call with Putin, Russia has agreed to produce 350,000 tonnes of diesel for American consumption--right before a certain midterm election?

Aren't we supposed to be supporting the other guy--Zalenski?

Never saw A Very British Coup, but I believe this is the basic set-up, except with a left-wing international alliance, ie. socialist UK PM takes out big loan from the USSR to help manage economic crisis at home.
  • So now the USA will be prosecuting itself for breaking the sanctions in place against Russia?

trump supports one guy and one guy only - himself.

Has ever an emperor been as bad as trump?

This one's actions are having worldwide consequences. All in the name of bolstering his polls and ego.

The latest sanctions against the ICC have been characterised by some as yet another petulant response by Trump to the award of the Nobel Peace Prize to Navi Pillay. Maybe. But I wondered if it was also a preemptive move against the risk of ICC possible action against the US for alleged war crimes.

Whatever, it’s yet another example of his bruised ego producing a lash out. Two years to go.

Of the Romans I would nominate Caligula.

    Indeed.

He was horrendous. But trump is affecting every one of us with his paranoid self love.

The difference between him and Caligula is one of scope. Both of them are/were as evil as their positions allow/ed.

There's a big difference between agreement and actual delivery, though. Neither party in the 'deal' has much of a record for good faith.
  • That may be so, but it's the sheer perfidy of Trump's action which is so sickening - and, meanwhile, more Ukrainian children are slaughtered by his pal Putin.

Happy birthday, Vlad. I hope it's your last.

From various figures reported in UK press, the total amount that Putin has promised to send amounts to a bit less than four days consumption in USA. Will that actually affect prices? How much will Putin actually be able to supply as the Ukrainians increase their attacks on Russian refineries?

There is little chance any Russian diesel will enter the American market before the midterms. Polls indicate 95% of Americans are not in favor this deal anyway. In other words, this will backfire.

Today CNN is reporting Trump is criticizing Zelenski for continuing to attack the Russian refineries and is now calling on Ukraine to replace Zelenski.
